The recent uproar over
Arizona's new immigration law has re-focused attention on an issue that has festered for several years. Immigration reform has been a hot-button political issue for a long time, though little has been done by the federal government to actually address the problem. This lack of government response has been one of the main reasons many people sympathize with (and even support) Arizona's over-the-top legislation.
One on the main areas in which illegal immigration affects people directly (particularly black people) is employment. It is no secret that many companies hire illegal immigrants because they know that they can pay them less and work them more hours without worry. An illegal immigrant is highly unlikely to complain about being overworked or underpaid for fear of being deported. It is a basic business practice to attempt to get the cheapest labor possible with the maximum amount of production. In that context, it is virtually impossible for American citizens to compete with the thousands of illegal immigrants now filling many low-paying, unskilled positions. Even in skilled trades (such as the construction industry) the situation is the same. From a pure business standpoint, it's just common sense. Who would you hire? An employee who is willing to work long hours for half the salary and no benefits or the one who will demand a decent wage, benefits and a reasonable shift?

Throughout history, there has always been conflict among those at the bottom of the socioeconomic ladder for job opportunities. Some of this conflict is a natural outcome of being in an environment with limited earning possibilities. Yet, there are still many of us who, instead of addressing the root issues relating to unemployment in our communities, choose to take the easy and ignorant path of attacking immigrants for "taking our jobs."
The reality is that the majority of jobs that have been lost in the United States have been shipped overseas to countries with cheaper labor. Many of the remaining jobs (that some claim were taken by illegal immigrants) have been difficult for companies to fill because they pay so little.
There does need to be immigration reform in the United States, for a variety of reasons. But making illegal immigrants the scapegoat for present employment conditions is simply a continuation of a foolish pattern of workers attacking other workers, instead of organizing toward a common goal of having basic rights and privileges as employees for all.

I only speak from experiance as usual . a courier company I use to work for had a separate branch for the illegals and they didnt make less money either in fact their only handicap was they didnt speak english so they could not go to gucci's, century city etc for a pick up and deliveries for now , I say that because they will help and interpret for each other. that same company had a dispatcher who spoke spanish and didn't mind spending extra time explaining . I dont thing a english speaking supervisor would put up with that. At any buisiness there is at least one illegal and if a vacancy arises watch who fills it . I cant be everywhere but from what I've seen they dont buy from other minorities but dont mind working for them .

O.K Elliott and Randy-- Some Americans have not awakened yet. Let me run this by u. When your city and state looks like Arizona and u are afraid to come out of your house because the Mexican drug Cartel is taking over your city, your state and your jobs, will u still feel as compassionate? Arizona border patrol has been searching domestic Airplanes for drugs since 1973. They spent money, time, blood, sweat, etc trying to keep all Americans safe. Now they are fighting a losing battle because the last 4 gov't Admin's welcomed them. Why? It was a social experiment that has failed. Change the face of the largest minority group from African American to Hispanic. 1987 census-19 million hispanics-29 million African American. Now 51 mil Hispanic. 40 mil African American. White pepople don't think that we get it, but u are so wrong.
White people are very comfortable around illegal aliens and very uneasy around us. (some kind of extreme phobia) I live in a white area and within a 10 mile radius very few blacks have been hired but illegal aliens are working at every restaurant and mall. BTW When I moved here 12 years ago I rec'd a call from a realtor within 1 week asking me if I wanted to sell my home. Well I am still here. I have had problems with white men (neighbors) screaming at me,coming into my yard without permission, sitting water over my fence for my dog,Unacceptable responses from the police department, & women neighbors hiding their faces as they drive by my house. Some of these people must practice witchcraft, because one of them sat and egg right in the middle of my yard, hoping that I would step on it.
The thousands of illegals that work around here don't work long hours. The writer of this blog says they work without benefits. (not true)
However no benefits for them equals no benefits for the rest of us. (totally unamerican) Employers will say they must be competative.

Elliot you can't be more right. I was just telling my wife the same thing. If we could fix employee rights and keep jobs here alot of things would be fixed. Housing,Social Security,medical,etc..

Okay, Elliot. So Im an ignorant because I'm tired of taxes, rent, fees and everything going up because city and states are paying for illegal aliens. So far all you have said is support the illegal alien, I expect that from am idiot. Did it ever occur to you and others like you, As long as these people can come here the country they come from has no reason to change, Thet means more will come. How many? How many can we afford??? All these lying supporters say "we want them to have a better life" Coming here is not doing them any good nor those back home. Slaves had it bad here, they didn't run to another country. they fought and died for a better life, They didn't take the "easy way" out. They were heroes. You said blaiming them for fewer jobs is a losing battle, If they were not here the jobs would be available. I looked into the 14th amendment and it dosent say what they would have us believe it says . it was enacted for the children of slaves when it came time for the to vote not for criminals plotting to have a child here and then the whole extended family can come, stay and recieve social services.

The police chief said the other day rounding up illegals will take them away from other more important crimes but he did not say who was commiting those more important crimes.The school yard my son attends looks like a 3rd world country if you took out all the American kids they would not be missed take out all the illegals it would be a ghost town and still who paid for that school not them. The food banks are tapped out.
And last but not least have you ever seen what steps are taken when Haitians arrive on our shores illegally they are sent back no questions ask .Dont worry about our Black women they do what they do.
