But thanks to our lovely friends at Mapquest we might be able to salvage our savings for other important investments.
7 Ways To Save On Gas
Find Cheap Gas
Comparison shop. Be a proactive consumer. Don't just pay the high prices at the closest station. Shop around to find the most competitive price in town. For a little help, visit http://gasprices.mapquest.com to compare prices in your area. You can find the best deal by zip code and street name, as well as check out prices by grade of gasoline.
Buy a Fuel-Efficient Vehicle
Consider buying a fuel-efficient vehicle, a hybrid vehicle, or an alternative-fuel vehicle. It could save you a lot at the gas pump and not to mention help the environment. FuelEconomy.gov offers tips on buying a new fuel-efficient car or truck.
Slow It Down
Gas mileage decreases rapidly at speeds above 60 mph, costing an additional 10 cents per gallon. Aggressive driving can lower gas mileage by as much as 33 on the highway and 5 on city streets, resulting in 7 cents to 49 cents per gallon. Don't get too emotional driving, its supposed to be a time to relax and reflect. Next time you get in your car stay calm, cool, and collected put your car on cruise control.
Stop Idling
Idling gets you zero miles per gallon. The best way to warm up a vehicle is to drive it. No more than 30 seconds of idling on winter days is needed. Anything more simply wastes fuel and increases emissions. Be conscious of your environment and your pocket.
Tune Ups
Most motorists don't realize it's the little things that can make a difference. Fixing a serious maintenance problem, such as a faulty oxygen sensor, can improve your mileage by as much as 40. Dirty spark plugs can cause misfiring which can waste fuel. Replacing a clogged air filter can save gas mileage by as much as 10, saving you 15 cents per gallon. Tune your engine; it'll increase gas mileage by 4. Also, damaged, loose, or missing gas caps, under-inflated tires, poor wheel alignment, and worn spark plugs all contribute to poor fuel economy.
Combine Errands
Instead of making several trips to the cleaners, grocers, post office and the bank, do all of your errands at one time. Before you hop into you car, plan ahead. Keep a checklist if necessary. This will save you time and money.
Park Your Car
Take public transportation. Walk it'll save you money and help you shed a few undesirable pounds. Carpool. You and some of your colleagues can take turns driving each other to work. Talk to your supervisor about telecommuting one day a week.

why are gas stations charging one price if you use cash and another if you use credit. shouldn't it be one price how are they getting away with that and if you don't look up you would never know.

i am spending over $100 dollars for gas a week i am ready to start taking public transportaion. this is really crazy. my solution would be if you could afford fill up and try to make it last do everything in one day if you could because as soon as you put the gas in your tank the next second that you blink it cost more. good luck to all

why is gas prices so high? is it the war or are we (republicans) hoarding for the future. lets use our own natural resources. time for democratic party to enter office. go obama

Our car is essential to us. We try not to allow our tank to get to nearly "MT" or "MT"; because it has become a strain spending $60.00+, 2-3x's per week. If everyone parked their cars; used public trans. or bikes; the prices would have to drop. (but I know this is not doable).

You need to realize, Scott, that it is environmentalists and Democrats who have REFUSED TO ALLOW our own oil to be drilled, and also WOULD NOT ALLOW new refineries to be built, and also WOULD NOT ALLOW coal to be used for energy, and also WOULD NOT ALLOW further use of clean, efficient nuclear resources. This situation has roots in both environmentalists' short sightedness and Democrats in congress who for years controlled and manipulated purse strings and such things as energy exploration. There are AMPLE resources in this country, most of which cannot be touched because of these two primary inhibiters.

Its no coincidence fuel prices started rising after George Bush 2nd entered office and has been rising ever since. Now that this is his last year in office wegetting screwed ROYALLY(Saudi Royals Are Bush Buddies) and he has very close ties with other big oil tycoons.Only a fool would put another REPUBLICAN in office with G.W.Bush mindset on policies.Republicans are to blame for the last 7years of American chaos of BUSH,now they wanna cry foul but they foolish enough to put McCain in there too then they'll regret that too but by then we'll be living like a 3rd world country...

This is no coincidence that eversince G.W.Bush 2nd has been in office fuel has reached record highs and still climbing drastically in his last year in office. We are getting screwed ROYALLY(Saudi connections) oil tycoons are some of his closest friends. All the republicans that voted for him are responsible for this mess. And anyone voting for McCain is digging us deeper.Your voting decisions really do make a difference. There are no quik fixes but improvements are not out of the question when you keep republicans out of control or we will be living like a 3rd world country, not far from it now...
