But thanks to our lovely friends at Mapquest we might be able to salvage our savings for other important investments.
7 Ways To Save On Gas
Find Cheap Gas
Comparison shop. Be a proactive consumer. Don't just pay the high prices at the closest station. Shop around to find the most competitive price in town. For a little help, visit http://gasprices.mapquest.com to compare prices in your area. You can find the best deal by zip code and street name, as well as check out prices by grade of gasoline.
Buy a Fuel-Efficient Vehicle
Consider buying a fuel-efficient vehicle, a hybrid vehicle, or an alternative-fuel vehicle. It could save you a lot at the gas pump and not to mention help the environment. FuelEconomy.gov offers tips on buying a new fuel-efficient car or truck.
Slow It Down
Gas mileage decreases rapidly at speeds above 60 mph, costing an additional 10 cents per gallon. Aggressive driving can lower gas mileage by as much as 33 on the highway and 5 on city streets, resulting in 7 cents to 49 cents per gallon. Don't get too emotional driving, its supposed to be a time to relax and reflect. Next time you get in your car stay calm, cool, and collected put your car on cruise control.
Stop Idling
Idling gets you zero miles per gallon. The best way to warm up a vehicle is to drive it. No more than 30 seconds of idling on winter days is needed. Anything more simply wastes fuel and increases emissions. Be conscious of your environment and your pocket.
Tune Ups
Most motorists don't realize it's the little things that can make a difference. Fixing a serious maintenance problem, such as a faulty oxygen sensor, can improve your mileage by as much as 40. Dirty spark plugs can cause misfiring which can waste fuel. Replacing a clogged air filter can save gas mileage by as much as 10, saving you 15 cents per gallon. Tune your engine; it'll increase gas mileage by 4. Also, damaged, loose, or missing gas caps, under-inflated tires, poor wheel alignment, and worn spark plugs all contribute to poor fuel economy.
Combine Errands
Instead of making several trips to the cleaners, grocers, post office and the bank, do all of your errands at one time. Before you hop into you car, plan ahead. Keep a checklist if necessary. This will save you time and money.
Park Your Car
Take public transportation. Walk it'll save you money and help you shed a few undesirable pounds. Carpool. You and some of your colleagues can take turns driving each other to work. Talk to your supervisor about telecommuting one day a week.
Now that prices seem to have skyrocketed to four dollars and more in certain parts of the country, Mapquest is trying to help users find stations charging the lowest prices nearest to them.
The site allows you to choose from a list of gas stations closest to your designated location as well as the price for your choice grade. Some days you might feel like being nice to your vehicle and want premium gas or there are those days when you only want to put in enough regular gas to get you home.
Next time you notice you're about to be on 'E' pull over to check out Mapquest and find out where you can fill your tank without emptying your pockets completely. Click here to test it out for yourself and tell us what you think about saving money at the pump.

I remember about 20yrs ago we had a gas shortage in Calif. And we had to go on odd and even days ,which meant if your last number on your license plate end in a 7 you would have to go on a odd day, and if your license plate ended in a 8 you would go even day and itwas very dreadful. People would we get off work rushing to the gas pumps before the stores would close, and sometimes the lines would be so long they would run out gas staying line.

Check out this video. Bush spent my stimulus check on a crazy White House Party. If you have any young children or a box of kittens near the computer, get them away! This is rough! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YPSAwfCsVg4

We need to move to a new energy source, or combination of several sources. In the meantime, are people ready to try rationing gas in order to get cheaper gas to the transportation infrastructure, the trucking companies and truckers and even the sales force of America?
Are you ready to vote for a politician who wants to ration gas?

Rev. Wright, Bill Ayres, Obama's Church are the cause of the mess we're in!!! Shawn Hannity and Rusch Limbaugh screem about Rev. Wright to hide the real problems facing people every day.
For months and months Hannity has talked about the relations of Ayers and Rev. Wright to Senator Obama to hide rising price of gas, higher food cost and deteriorating schools. It's Rev. Wright's fault.
As a millionaire Rusch could care less about the price of gas. Why haven't Limbaugh and Hannity done something, other than talk trash, to lower the price of gas for their listeners? Why haven't Limbaugh and Hannity done something, other than talk trash, to lower the price of food at the grocery store?
Talking trash does nothing for their listeners who are not rich, like they are.
Obama threatens their comfort zones of being rich while the poor are catching hell.

IT DOESN'T MATTER WHO'S POSTING THE CHEAPER PRICES, BECAUSE THEY'RE TAKING MORE. LET ME EXPLAIN! I HAVE A 16 GALLON CAR AND WHEN I GO PUMP GAS MY RECEIPT SHOWS I'VE PUMPED 17.504 GALLONS OR MORE. THE POSTED PRICE SHOWS 3.999 WHEN THE PUMP IS CALIBRATED AT 4.38-4.40. I CONFRONTED THE STATION MANAGER HE PRETENDED HE DIDN'T SPEAK ENGLISH. I WAITED UNTIL MY GAS LIGHT CAME ON AGAIN 4 DAYS LATER AND I RETURNED TO THE STATION. I PUMPED 15.438 GALLONS OF GAS BECAUSE THE PUMP WERE CALIBRATED CORRECTLY. IF YOU KNOW HOW MANY GALLONS YOU'RE CAR HOLDS THAN YOU CAN CHECK TO SEE THAT WHAT I'M SAYING IS TRUE. WHEN YOU GO TO THE CHEAPER STATIONS THEY'RE TAKING MORE!

I agree with every comment on this blog, except for number 4. How dare you blame the Demos, when Pres. Clinton had this country running like a jewel. Health cost were down, gas was down and the national deficit was erased. I am a veteran and i served my country proudly home and abroad. We were the first unit in kuwait for OIF/OEF. We put Iraq in a bind and they had nothing to do with 911. After my tour in Iraq, I got out. i refuse to support OIF/OEF because they did me nothing. When Clinton was our Comm-in-Chief, there were no wars. Only thing was the attack of the Uss. Cole. And that was nipped in the bud. Get off the Bush trail and vote DEMOCRAT. GO OBAMA OR CLINTON!!!!!!!!

I recieved an e-mail suggesting how to get the gas prices down. It's not that simple to just not get gas or not drive. we can make the gas companies compete with themeselves. We can stop buying gas from the top 3 gas companies and force them to come down on there prtices. this puts them at war with eachother

G-OWENS#37 IS MAKING A GOOD POINT, BUT TO GROW YOUR OWN FOOD AND BE SELF SUFFICIENT BY NOT USEING IT AND WHEN EMPLOYERS DONT SEE THERE EMPLOYEES THIS WILL PULL THE GAS PRICE DOWN THEN THE GOVERMENT WILL FEAR THE PEOPLE.
