NPR News and Views has posted an article on a recent study with surprising findings. Apparently, black women have difficulty saving, because they so often lend money to relatives and friends, and tithe to their churches. These types of gifts can create a financial burden for black women that other groups do not face.
Do you agree with this finding? Is this commendable generosity, or painful martyrdom? Leave your thoughts below.

Not to waiters and waitresses. They are the worst tippers in the world.

SOME WAITERS AND WAITRESSES SUCK! WHEN I GET DECENT SERVICE I TIP 15%, IF THE SERVICE IS EXTRAORDINARY I TIP 20-25% AND COMPLIMENT MY SERVER. IF YOU SUCK, I EITHER LEAVE OR ASK THE MANAGER FOR A REPLACEMENT. SOME PEOPLE DON'T DO ANY OF THESE BUT WILL SHOW THEIR DISAPPOINTMENT IN THE AMOUNT OF THE TIP. SO, WHAT KIND OF SERVICE DO YOU REALLY GIVE TO THE SISTA'S OUT THERE? BEFORE YOU GO GENERALIZING, CHECK YOURSELF FIRST. FINALLY, I KNOW THERE ARE POOR TIPPERS IN EVERY ETHNIC AND GENDER GROUP. SHAME ON YOU!

I have to agree with that whole statement we as Black women will give away as much as would could just to help someone in need think that someone would do the same in return.

Yes we do give more than we ought to to our families, our jobs, our churches, to total strangers. We don't give enough to ourselves, especially when it comes to our health and our own education. Many black women I know are stressed due to health issues and terrible jobs they have to work due to the lack of education. Then we go to church where we should be able to find peace and comfort; there we're told we are being disobedient & rebellious if we don't tithe the money we need to pay our light bills and rent. God is no where near as harsh as Christians.

To whom much is given much is required-that's Bible. Cosmetic mogul Mary Kay Ash built her business on the phrase " God first, family second and then career", which is why Mary Kay Cosmetics is the #1 seller of color cosmetics. She understood the importance of balance as it relates to the issues of life. If you give yourself time, money and talent unto the Lord then he'll create a such a flow in your life where you'll never feel the need to give out of place of "to much".
Tithe and offerings shows your obedience to God and protects you from the tricks and schemes of the enemy.
Women there is power in your "NO"!!!!!!!! Not just to friends or family borrowing money or baby sitting. Just learn to exercise your right to say NO!!!!!
No I don't want to babysit my sisters kids.
No I don't feel like taking you here or there.
Stop residing in the land of "false humility" of a yes, when your heart really wants to say NO!!!!!!

tithing is biblical.
it is the word of god for the people of god. i have been tithing for over 15 yrs now and i am blessed above and beyond. for those who think black women give too much, we don't know any different. we take care of our own. god blesses us for that. man or woman when it comes to blessing others be careful you don't block your own.

The question itself is coming from a perspective of LACK, If you put limits on what you give, and/or it has to be given in a certain way or used in a certain way and/ah,Only certain individuals can have it, Then my friends you are coming from a perspective of LACK
The most High God and it's abundant universe has no limits-Abundance is limitless, So when you give from that limitless Why would you need to put limits on it-Give Freely you see, The because does not matter It's just your fear of Lack, When you are abundant you share Time,Money,Energy(sharing) Just don't harm yourself- Listen From a universal perspectvie there is no Lack and the key understanding here is to realize not to be attached to items in your life, if your not attached no one can take anything away from you because you will realize You don't own anything, No one in this world owns anything, ownership is not part of abundance -Oh your mind will say I have papers, rights and that my friends is a child's perspective-When you die can you take it with you,You have custody you can use it,you are not that item. We are all born a 10 and I give 10% of abundance so you see that giving 10% of my abundance I'm still abundant. Thank You for reading Peace and Blessings

I agree with the statement 100%, but I feel there is one thing missing. As a black woman I feel we give to our men or women what ever you prefer as a sexual partner. when it comes down to our lovers we will give our last dollar knowing we got a bill due. I'm not talking about every black woman because we have some strong head sisters out here. But in the last 3 to 5 years I have seen more women as the bread winners then men. To my BLACK BEAUTIFUL SISTERS I had to learn the hard way because I was going in finicial debt and MY SO CALL MAN was only there for a free ride. Because once i told him he needed a job he walked out of my life and found the next woman that was willing to take care of him. So ladies let's be real get your self some type of plan to save you some money because in the long run you just might need it for a rain day.

Yes, I totally agree with the statement and it's not just financially. We tend to spread ourselves timewise. We commit to doing so many things that we don't have a lot of personal time. I am guilty of the financial woes as well. But to comment on the waiter/ waitress thing; I happen to be well cultured and tip according to service as well as proper gratuity etiquette. Ideem it an insult to black women that we don't tip. Most of the time we receive service, the server seems disappointed or not pleased to be doing his or her job and if you are unhappy performing a servise it reflects in your abilty to perform it well. As stated before "CHECK YOURSELF!"

Yes, "Just say No" When you say it your "true" friends and family will still come to visit & call to say How are you today, etc. It has been my experience that people don't call you unless they want something. The church and the "Passa" not all but some try to make you feel "guilty" if you do not put "cash" in the collection plate. You "time" helping as usher, deacon, cleaning , donations or basically any thing "in lieu" of money is " not acceptable" but to who...Pastor or God?....read for your self what the "bible" says about it.
