NPR News and Views has posted an article on a recent study with surprising findings. Apparently, black women have difficulty saving, because they so often lend money to relatives and friends, and tithe to their churches. These types of gifts can create a financial burden for black women that other groups do not face.
Do you agree with this finding? Is this commendable generosity, or painful martyrdom? Leave your thoughts below.

From my perspective women do give more than men. yes there are women gold diggers but the majority of men are the users and takers. I stopped going to church because the sermon every sunday is we don't give enough in the collection plates. we decided we would give nothing less than $10.00 in church that still was not enough. He said
you give $10.00 and you think you doing something. that is not including bible study on wednesday and sunday school where there is more collection. Some members talked a lady into giving her lightbill money to pay her tithes and said GOD will provide her light bill money before it's due. Someone forgot to send GOD the memo because she was in the dark a week later she was already behind. Common sense and knowledge is power. Little by little the congregation dwindled and the building now it is a trucking company. Thank GOD. The people, not the building make a church and those people like most of the churches are not right. I will be joining Lakewood church very soon i now watch on tv due to work schedule. Joel Osteen is the only one that don't beg for money on or off TV and that is why i am more than happy to send him my money.

To the sevice workers, the people you serve are not rich. Some of us have jobs as crappy or crappier than yours. We sometimes have enough to just get our hair done or to pay for our food. I recieve poor service more than i recieve good service. I tip only when service is good and when i have it. We should not feel like we have to stay in cause we do not have money to tip. Like the other commentor said get another job. I have worked in service jobs and worked harder to get out and do better. i appreciated my tips and i never got angry with the customers that did not tip me because i rationalized it as they do not have it or felt the service was not acceptable or never gave it a thought. I had 1 free loader in my house and will never have another. Hurricane allison made his father's house, where he was living, unlivable and he said he'd paid rent in advance for a apt. that would not be ready for two weeks so i let him stay. The two week's turned to 4 months until i went talked to the apt manager who said "What are you talking about he has not gave me any rent money for a apt." I put him out on the street where he belonged. The whole time he never gave me money on anything. Eating my food and sucking up my air, upset that he cannot stay in my house and keep my new car while i am at work. GOD bless the child that got his own. Now, i leave 'em in the wind. My giving now is limited to LakeWood Church, The star of hope and my city's food bank that is still helping the hurricane victim's of new orleans and galveston and any one else that need it.

Yes some of black women give too much, especially when men ask us for money we try to do right and let them have it, but when they just keep coming back for more it's time to say I don't have it, men don't look at the fact that women have biils too. So men stop living off us women and get a job.
