The editors over at SavvySugar have an interesting idea for the holidays: Set a universal spending limit on gift-giving. Under this plan, you and your loved ones would mutually agree not to spend more than a certain amount on all holiday gifts. In these tough economic times, this seems like a really good idea. But is it in the spirit of Christmas? I don't think so. Leave your thoughts below.

TickleMe Plant - Economical Green Gift Kids Love!
In the quest to save energy, save money and set an example to my kids, I googled kids favorite plant and found a REAL plant that MOVES when you Tickle It! See the video http://www.ticklemeplant.com/video/video.htm
It looked amazing to see a plant actually close its leave and lower its branches when tickled, but could I duplicate this at home in my apartment here in New York? I put it to the test! Within a few days the 2 leaves sprouted and as per the packaging, only closed at night. That alone was worth the small price I paid for the TickleMe Plant Greenhouse. A few weeks later small leaves appeared from the center. Would they close up when tickled? Well, not only did the leaves close but the entire tiny branch drooped. I fell in love at first tickle! No batteries required just the rays of the sun or a descent light and some water No green thumb needed as I don't have one

Last year we agreed to adopt a family from the Department of Social Services. My children who are 24, 22, and 18 understood why that would not be receiving presents last. We plan on dong the same thing this year, being thankful that we can provide a Christmas for a family that might not otherwise have one. Taking this one step further, my daughters (24 & 22) are volunteering at a food bank this Thanksgiving. I think it's more important for our children to understand how blessed they are, and to pass that blessing onto others.

I agree with you. Grownups set their own limits and don't impose them on others or demand that the gifts they give and those they receive be of equal value.
