Remember the friendly words of cooperation and bipartisanship offered by Republican lawmakers on the Hill in the wake of President Obama's inauguration?Well, you can forget them. It seems the Republicans have.
How else can you explain the fact that not one House Republican -- ZERO -- managed to vote in support of the president's $819 billion plan to pull this country out of fiscal ruin? ...

Obama hasn't had a chance to get his chair in the Oval Office warm yet, and Republicans are already playing silly games. I can understand how many, if not a huge majority of, Republicans would vote against the package. Its recipe for spending runs opposite of the GOP mantra of smaller government.
But is it possible that none of them was bright enough to look past political ideology and see that the country is crumbling financially? Growing unemployment, shrinking real estate values and tight credit are just the start of our problems. As the great philosopher Fred Sanford once said, we aren't over the hill, we are down in the valley.
Only time will tell if the stimulus package will ultimately work. And valid questions can be asked of it. Will the tax cuts portion help middle-income Americans? Is $819 billion enough to reverse the tide?
One thing is certain. We can't afford to sit on our hands. Exactly what comprehensive program have Republicans offered in contrast? Don't let the silence scare you.
It is this silly retreat to partisan politics that is likely the reason Republicans are in the position they currently enjoy -- a minority party in both the House and Senate and locked out of the White House for at least four more years.
Nice going GOP. Keep it up.

I AGREE BUSH NEVER WANTED TO WORK ACROSS THE AISLE LIKE OBAMA IS TRYING TO . I WISH THAT THE REPUBLICANS WOULD GROW UP AND PUT GOD FIRST AND COUNTRY NEXT. I HOPE THEY WILL EVENTUALLY COME AROUND AND WORK WITH OUR NEW PRESIDENT. AND THAT RUSH LIMBAUG WILL STOP TRYING TO DIVIDE THE COUNTRY WITH HIS EVIL IDEOLOGY.

This bill is a disaster and a model of pork barrel legislation. Throwing money at a problem does not solve anything. Look at the war on drugs. What this bill may (and I emphasize may)do is create short term "work", it will not create jobs. When funding runs out so does "work", and we are deeper in debt with nothing to show for it.

I thank God that those Democrats voted against this crazy stimulus. Its horrible. We dont even know half of whats in it. What we are aware of so far is all pork. This will make the poor even more dependant on the government and create more and more poor. It's a shame that the Dems are not allowing the people to see this bill before voting on it. I am starting to regret that obama is president.

Why would anybody vote for something that think will not work? The first bail out in Oct was a mistake. Has anything gotten better as a result of that $700B tax payer screw job? I don't think so. The fix that was used in the late '80s early '90s to fix the savings and loan mess would be a more effective and less costly solution. If only 12 cents of every dollar in the House plan gets spent to stimulate the economy this year, this plan is a joke.

The Republicans are still in a shock and healing stage. I don't care how much President Obama try hiis best to reach out for their support, they are never going to change. This is their human nature and no one changes over night. Obama knows what he has to do to move the country forward with or without them. He is just trying too hard to get their support. In the end they all will come over if Obama succeeds. You can lead a horse to a water jole, but you can't make him drink.........

The best way to stimulate the economy is give tax incentives to companies willing bring jobs from oversease to the U.S. No bailout money should be given to companies who employ people outside the U.S. Granted, it's a tough sell to CEOs, but you have to set conditions. Granted, these jobs may not pay as well, but it's either low pay or no pay.
