Singer/actor Tyrese Gibson's divorce proceedings with estranged wife Norma Mitchell point out how important a financial decision marriage can be for both men and women.Their union lasted only 10 months, so how much is a 10-month marriage worth? In this case, a one-time payment of $65,000, monthly rental payments of $2,730 and an $800-a-month car payment thrown in for good measure.
That's what a judge decided Tyrese must pay Ms. Mitchell this week according to TMZ.com. On top of all this, Tyrese is also on the hook for child support payments of $6,230 a month until their daughter Shayla becomes an adult. His ex will also be in control of those funds, if not the direct recipient.
Tyrese reportedly made $800,000 during the 10 months the couple was "together." When added up over a similar ten-month period, the total court-approved payments total $162,600 -- and that is just the beginning. The costs will rack up further over time. But just for this brief period, that's close to 20% of what Tyrese made during their short time together. Apparently, the judge's decision wasn't generous enough, as the soon-to-be former Mrs. Gibson is contesting the prenuptial agreement she signed prior to the two taking their vows, "'til 10 months do us part."
If 20% of his earnings isn't enough compensation for a fast and failed relationship, what percentage is the right amount?

Can Ms. Mitchell make a valid arguement for 25%, 40% or 50% of Tyrese's earnings simply because he was an absentee father as her lawsuit claims? Before you decide, read the court documents posted by the Web site Radar Online, and some juicy details to the story outlined by NecoleBitchie.com.
No matter who you believe is right in this situation, both parties will lose financially after the legal proceedings have ended. Tyrese will be out at least $162,600 and perhaps more if Ms. Mitchell successfully lobbies the court for more compensation. His reputation will also take a short-term hit as dirty details continue to leak out -- details that could impact his ability to earn more money in endorsements or movie roles while the divorce drags on. He will certainly survive and he deserves no pity, but from a financial standpoint, his resources could have been used for better purposes -- like building a life with someone he could commit to for more than 10 months. Most men can't afford to make such a mistake.
As for Ms. Mitchell, no matter what type of settlement she gets, it will only be a temporary sum of money that will disappear quickly if she doesn't find another means of supporting herself and her high-end lifestyle. And since her reputation is also at risk as the dirt flies during their ongoing dispute, pressing for more money could work against her if she tries to revive her modeling career. While she may not have purposely intended to do so, Ms. Mitchell seems to have forgotten to have a viable financial plan to move on with her life in case of divorce or the death of her husband. Counting on your husband to take care of all your financial needs is not a good financial strategy under any circumstance, but especially not after you've signed a prenuptial agreement. And banking on a court settlement in a divorce is not a sound financial plan for any woman.
Marriage has many financial consequences that people need to consider before they tie the knot.

There are two sides to each store! Which one is right?
You decide. Neither side warrents separation if they both really ment their vows, in fact they wouldn't be breaking-up if they both were sincere about each other!

Tyrese is no different than most people who go brain dead in relationships. Emotions take over, brain shuts off, foolish decisions are made and severe consequences are paid. There is no rehab for stupidity. Right, Rihanna?

Well, this is not my relationship so I'm not going to comment on it. My statements are in general. Women you can't say that you're a good christian woman and pick and choose what you want out of the bible. In the bible men of god over time have taken on more then one woman(wife). If you did not think he was a man of god, you should have never married him.
For those who run with the "BW deserve better conversation", it does not change because you choose a man of a different race or woman who desires to be a man. It's just a new spin and face on the "same game". As a male, in NYC I've seen/heard it all.
Fellas if we lay with them unfortunately we have to pay for them. We do it anyway, it just we dont like the courts telling us how to spend our hard earned money or the greedy chick, because we usually had to sink our egos to get it.
In my 30's what I have learned is nothing serious with any woman unless you can watch her mother for a time, because when the front is over she has to regress to what she knows. Having dated women of color from your Europe, Africa, S. America and the Carribeans it does not change, it's just a different accent...telling you the same damn thing. So in the end if we going to have children of the right mind, we have deal with it.
I have friends who decided not to take a women of color and half of them give me "WTF was I thinking!", 25% secretly were never going to marry women of color(funny thing is that these are the ones that blck wmn thought were the most "down"..lol), the other 25% complain to me about no matter how much money they make the women's family looks at them as a "n*g**r.
My advice with these chicks (before they turn 45)is you get 100 points, that gets divided into looks, morality, intelligence, so if you see or hear to much of one, their is lacking somewhere else. "Now let the hate mail commence"

What ever happen to till death do us part!!!! The husband is responsible for his wife in every way. He should be made to pay more and what's the reason for this quick divorce ? Last I heard..... it's still cheaper to keep her. I hope she drains him dry ... so there will be nothing left for the next wife and kids that comes along. WHY IT SEEMS AS THOUGH EVERYONES ON THE MANS SIDE.

I STILL CAN'T FIGURE OUT WHY SHE'S A GOLD DIGGER.FROM THE BEGINNG OF TIME THE MAN HAS TAKEN CARE OF THE FAMILY AND THE WOMEN NEVER WORKED.IT SEEMS LIKE IT'S OK FOR A WHITE WOMAN TO BE A STAY AT HOME MOM BUT, NOT BLACK WOMEN. THEY MET, DATED, AND MARRIED. HE MUST HAVE LOVED HER BUT, JUST COULDN'T KEEP HIS ZIPPER UP.HE THOUGHT THAT SHE WAS GOING TO PUT UP WITH HIS PHILANDERING BECAUSE SHE WAS DEPENDENT ON HIM.I ONCE DATED A GUY AND EVERYTHING WAS FINE. I GOT LAID OFF FOR A BIT AND THAT FOOL DID A 360 ON ME. TRING TO CONTROL ME AND STARTED STEPPING OUT. I SHOWED HIM, ONE DAY HE CAME HOME AND I WAS GONE. HE CALLED MY SISTER RELAYING MESSAGES, BEGGING FOR MY NUMBER AND WHERE ABOUTS FOR ALMOST SIX MONTHS. I NEVER WENT BACK.

Remember Tyrese and his wife had lived together for ove six or seven years before they got married. I am surprised that she didnot file for palimony especially in a state like California!

She is Jewish? Probably why he insisted she signed the pre-nup in the first place :0
I don't think she should get any more period, heard of the pill? Or the day after pill? If she planned on having a kid she should make sure she can support HERSELF financially or planned it... you know few years down their marriage. Since she filled for divorce she should live with the fact she signed a contract.
10 months and a kid... sounds like she got knocked up before they tied the knot.
Whatever the outcome I'm sure Tyrese is going to think twice what he sticks into lol..
