OK, don't lie. You know that when you heard about the woman being beaten in the beauty salon in Oakland, you clicked on the link faster than Eminem's neck snapped when he had Bruno's behind in his face. You were curious, yet disturbed by the incident, as was nearly everyone else in America.

But one thing that black attorneys such as Christopher Metzler noticed during this incident were the legal implications of attacking someone in public, in broad daylight, videotaping the incident and then bragging about it on the radio. Now that the Oakland Police Department has taken notice, the women responsible for the attack are going to have some serious problems.

Black Hairstyles Through the Years
The Bouffant: The 1960s
Talk about big hair! The bouffant was a style popularized in the 1960s and one that required more than a little bit of hairspray. Barbara McNair rocks a mean one here.
Everett Collection
Wigs: The 1960s
The Supremes must have had a ball dressing in the latest fashions AND hottest hairstyles every time they stepped outside the door. They all wore top-of-the-line wigs, which gave them a different look every night.

The Conk: The 1960s
Popular since the 1920s, Malcolm X famously noted in his autobiography about a horrible experience he had trying to put lye, or a conk, in his hair. Jackie Wilson kills the look du jour with shiny, perfect waves and probably a little pain to get it just right.
The Afro: The 1970s
Angela Davis was the poster child for the Afro during the late '60s and '70s with a this perfectly coiffed orb o' hair. Davis said she had to put Tide detergent in hers to make it stand up just so. Afro pick!

The Afro: The 1970s
On the man side, Sly Stone went for a little texture in his 'fro, which was about the same height as Angela Davis's The sideburns and sequins complete the look of the perfect '70s rock star!
Cornrows with Beads: The 1970s
Alicia Keys reprises this classic '70s style with a modern twist. Her cornrows, or hair braided to the scalp in intricate designs, were quite common during the '70s. The squiggly parts give it that '90s swag.
The Flip: The 1970s
Natalie Cole is the perfect representation of the '70s here with the flip -- hair curled upward in layers made most popular by actress Farrah Fawcett. Her gold hoops and wide collar cement the look.

The Mushroom: The 1980s
The flip turned into a mushroom in the early '80s where hair was curled under all around. Jada Pinkett Smith even has that '80s pose going here with hers.
Corbis
The Jheri Curl: The 1980s
Who could even think about the '80s without thoughts -- or shudders -- of the ubiquitous jheri curl? Everybody had a curl back then and the jokes about activator on pillowcases lasted much longer than the hairstyle ever did. Soooooooul Glow!
The Shag: The 1980s
We all sang the line "in my younger days I used to sport a shaaaaag?" The Pharcyde remembers and so do we! The uber-retro Kanye West even brought back the "black man's mullet" this year. Oh yes.

The very same thing, we as africian american people want to get away from, some of you have managed to bring to the table. Stop blaming and or using the race card!! when ever? This had nothing to do with any one "white". Call it what it is!! stupid black woman. Not all black women carry themselves in this manner. Me being one!! It starts at home. Period. raising our children thinking white this, black that. You are steering your children, if any. down the very same road we are trying to get away from. change starts with the Man in the Mirror!!! Things of such natural happen everyday? Do I want to see white women beat each other up? no. Hold these women accountable!! Is it a negitive look on our community? yes!!! black on black crime is high, nation wide.. and every time we mess up as africian americans, don't be so quick to say, that's what the KKK wants? they also want you to think the way your thinking? so, are you helping them? KKK had nothing to do with this, and could care less I'am sure? let's teach our children good values? Women raise our men up, good? this was about a man? I have three young adult sons, who treat women with respect!!! I would put my life on that!! it is not an option? we lost our communities long ago? no one to blame, but us.. Sad to say, I moved my children out of the city i grew up in? I knew the schools were horrible!!! the community had gotten away from what I knew to be good? My friends and sum family were comfortable living in public housing? not working? studing say there are generations living in public housing? 18yrs. girl have babies move right up stairs!!! they don't get a chance to expose themelves to anything else? and now? their children are getting high, dropped out of school, dead or in jail? I have one n army, one in college, and one in middle school? People, This is america? pastor talked about generational poverty!! it becomes a way of life!!! I would use that video, to tell women how not to act? we must be careful of what and how we say things? Those women had no regard for children? other customers? or themselves/ Blame them!!! and the young lady beaten, has a myspace saying"my haters made me a super star" how far from them, is she?

WTF what are they fighting over? Way to convince everyone that us black people are low down inconsiderate people. Fighting over nonsense and teaming up on one person like a bunch of pansies. I promise you all are just showing how true the stereotypes are. Why don't you learn how to stop acting like dumbasses.

I can't even hold my composure right now! Are you serious??? We as black people can not look around and see what is going on in the world around us, better yet the neighborhoods and hoods around us?We are still that ignorant that we have to result to being barbaric and animalistic to tell someone we don't appreciate what they said or how about simply ask the person if they said something??? These FEMALES - because I dare not call them women, have not only degraded themselves so low that they are oblivious to the fact and much less dont care - they make you want to beat their ass for the act they just committed. Truthfully they disgust me. I am passed the point of saying that I am "hurt" to see us black women out in public, private anywhere acting and conducting ourselves in such a way - the hurt has surpassed and scathed over the wound that it is now turned to having feelings of disgust and rage for your own kind. That is not good - but, as hard as things have been, still are and are going to be for us - we have so much time to act a damn fool and the dumb-ignorant ass female who was video taping this - she needs to be brought up on the same charges as the two committing the assault. If anyone else was in that salon and did not call 911 for that young lady - they need to be included on the charges as well. We are quick to include accomplices in murders, robberys, sexual assaults who did not physically committ the crime but were in the presence of the act - those low life females should have the same justice served upon them. When will we learn, when will start to value ourselves, when will we appreciate and love ourselves so that we can then love one another. After seeing this - I really have to pray. The sad thing is that I am from the Bay, moved away for 2 1/2 years and thought I missed it and longed to get back to it - this right here makes me re-think what I thought I was feeling...

I'm trying to understand how the whites can come here and post negative BS, when just this week, four white women crazy glued a man's "appendage" to his stomach. Also, a guy ran into a Pittsburgh gym and murdered women because no woman would give him the time of day. Also, the teenaged girl in Florida who was severly beaten by 8 other teens just happened to be white. Stop with the hypocracy, whitey.

Whether or not this is what the white man wants to see from African Americans is not the issue here. The real issue is ignorance and the way which we treat one another. This is deplorable and for what? Because she said something about somebody, two little girls in women's bodies? I want to see how they fare when they are facing charges of assault and battery, and false imprisonment at best; and those who stood by and watched it should be flogged! If she was a customer in the shop, they are all in heap big deep dodo because they owed her a duty to protect her. I am truly insensed by this video and I am going to have to take a walk behind it.

THESE COWARDLY, LOW SELF-ESTEEM HOODRATS ACTIONS ARE DISGRACEFUL, AND PURPOSELESS. This is despicable for the black race any race. What age are they, grade school. Who cares what people say about them. I am so proud of my upbringing...not to care what people say about me, however; it is important what I think of them. I was taught self-esteem and morales at home and apparently these rats have no self-esteem and definitely no morales, they care what people say about them. This is another reason why white people do not want blacks in their neighborhood. These hoodrats should do time for their actions and all that did not call the police to assist this young lady were apart of this cowardly act. Who are you to repremand an adult. Those hoodrats should be taught a lesson by doing jail time and try beating someone in prison like they beat that young lady. Advice to the young lady that was beaten, be mindful of the company you keep and they all need Christ in their lives.

Above all else, don't feel shame because of whites may think of Blacks. We have been conditioned to be ashamed for the actions of other Blacks. I guarantee you this, whites don't feel shame for the actions of other whites!

I just wish these supid comments of some black stop. Why do they have to make it a black thing. Within all race of the nation, there are violent acts among against each other. So stop saying it makes black people look bad, because it has nothing to do with that. For those black you say this, you are just sterotyping yourselves. Any other race will believe that it is true because it is being said to often by our own race. Stop passing this rumor around.
