This report was not only stellar for the president because of the decline in unemployment. It was also significant because previous job loss numbers for other months were revised by quite a bit.
It turns out that the economy lost only 139,000 jobs in September, rather than the original estimate of 219,000. Also, there were 111,000 jobs lost in October, rather than the previous estimate of 190,000. The stock market surged by nearly 150 points in early morning trading, given that the employment data was far better than economists estimates.
We must remember, however, that over 15 million workers are still unemployed, and 10 percent is still a very high level of unemployment. Additionally, black unemployment remains above 15 percent and is as high as 50 percent for black males in some urban areas. I am curious to see if the "rising tide" argument (that helping the entire economy will also help African Americans) used by President Obama applies to the black community. Even if it does, the employment gap between whites and blacks should never be acceptable. That gap must be closed and there is no excuse for not addressing it.
I predict that a sturdy economic recovery will occur during the fourth quarter of 2009 and into the spring. The fundamental strength of the American economy remains quite consistent and I believe in the economic strength of our country. With the improvement in the economy will come a rise in President Obama's approval ratings. He just has to hold on tight for the ride.

True, what's great for the Obama Administrations politicals aims is not necessarily great news for African Americans. This system has always treated Africans as outcasts and lepers and the President doesn't want to touch the color issue. I think he realizes that he doesn't have to. It doesn't mean he believes it's a non-issue, just that others in the black community (academics, professionals, celebrities etc.) should be discussing it. It's too problematic for the president to sign onto blatantly. He was even forced, as he did, to publicly say he was against any raced based solutions. Don't fret CBC. You go back to the drawing board and prepare a strong rebuttal (& 50 more). This is merely a first step. Don't forget, the opposition is greedy. They'll spend a trillion in the Middle East in a minute and bail out Wall Street, with a week's notice. We know they're not going to make it easy for us. Our case is real but I don't see a clear understanding 'out there' about our case. Now's the time to explain our history and our US claim.

The recession, in my opinion, will decline, partly because of internet opportunities and home based buisnesses. I have been able to make millions of dollars within the last 2 years with my home based businesses. I also say give it time, there's always hope for a brighter tomorrow. Oh Brother. No matter which subject is open for commentary or debate, here always comes the herds employing God or Jesus as the ONLY cure all. What does your God have to say about children being molested and murdered? What does your God say about the larger percentage of young life throughout history being slid into to hole in the ground solely due to religious fanaticism? Give us a break. If people stopped looking for answers to their strife and confusions through some mythical figure, maybe we'd take more stock in ourselves and dig a little deeper to resolve these issues on our own merit.
As proof of this, I'm right now praying to every God I can think of to end this nonsense of God and his having to do anything through answering prayer. Watch how long this lasts!
