So, allow me to be the first to provide our president with a grade for his performance. I've been giving grades to college students for the last 16 years, and one thing my students will tell you is that I am fair. My other argument is that I never actually GIVE you a grade; I simply report the grade that you've earned.
1) Handling of the Economy (B-): President Obama is better than John McCain ever could have been when it comes to managing our economic downturn. The problem is that while the president has spiraled our deficit out of control, our nation has yet to see any concrete evidence that the economy's fundamental strength has returned. He has made an enemy out of Wall Street by grandstanding around executive pay issues, but he has lost the backing of Main Street because job losses continue to mount. That's the problem with always reaching across the isle: Sometimes, you don't have firm support on either side of it. The president's inability to translate massive spending into real jobs is going to cost him big time.
2) Management of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan (B): On one hand, the president must face the stern reality that you can't just walk out of a war in the middle of it. We all know that Bush got us into these messes, and Obama must get us out. At the same time, Obama pledged to get us out of the wars faster than he is actually doing it, and it is incredibly awkward for a man to accept a Nobel Peace Prize while simultaneously escalating the troop presence in an occupied country. Sure Obama didn't give himself the Nobel Prize, but he still must be held accountable.

3) Keeping campaign promises (C-): OK, let's face facts: Most politicians lie. But they lie to us because deep down, we really want them to say things that make us feel good. As voters, we are entirely too idealistic to truly appreciate the complexities that come with running a nation -- we see the world as it should be and forget about what it actually is. But President Obama went overboard, as he seduced wide-eyed liberals like a 40-year-old pimp in the night club with 10 gold teeth in his mouth. He whispered in our ears and made promises that could never be kept. "Don't worry about it baby, we'll work out the details later. Hope and change girl, hope and change." As a result, many on the far left are feeling used and disillusioned by a politician who turned out to be (surprise!) just another politician. This reminds you of love relationships, where men work to convince women that they are the one man who is different from all the other men. At the end of the day, like politicians, we usually turn out to be the same.
4) Attention to Black America (D+): If you are black and educated, Barack Obama is your friend. If you are Harvard Professor Henry Louis Gates, the president is even willing to ruin a critical press conference on health care to help you win a urination contest with a local police officer. But if you are among the working class in black America, the president fully leverages your commitment to the black royalty of our nation, as we spend our time fantasizing about Ebony Magazine covers of the first family. Don't ask for targeted economic policy, because you aren't getting any of that (hopefully, the CBC can remedy this). Don't even ask for a black reporter to get to ask a single question at many of the White House press conferences (even when Obama made the error of weighing in on Henry Louis Gates, not one single black reporter was allowed to speak). Obama has given black America more hope than it could have expected, but less concrete policy than they would have gotten from Hillary Clinton. I am hopeful that 2010 is different.
5) Healthcare Reform (A-): When it comes to health care reform, the president deserves most of his A- for good old-fashioned effort. In the middle of two wars and a bad economy, the idea that the president would take on such a herculean task communicates that he may likely be as idealistic as his followers wanted to believe he is. He is going to get a health care reform bill passed early next year, and it is going to save lives. While he, like many other politicians, is still partly owned by the insurance companies who destroyed health care in the first place, I congratulate President Obama on a job well done.
6) Overall Grade (B-): I can't give you a specific formula for how the grade was weighted, but I can say that the president's dismissal of black America plays a significant role in the final score. Additionally, President Obama likely agrees with this assessment, since I presume that he was smart enough to inflate his own grade a little bit when Oprah asked him about it. That's the game: inflate your grade so that your honest critics can give you what you really deserve. Obama knows how to play it right.
Dr. Wilmer Leon, a prominent political scientist out of Howard University, gives the president a "B" for his overall performance. Dr. Leon makes the claim, correctly, that 80% of the president's problems were inherited by the other guy who controlled the White House for the previous four years. He also says that we should consider Obama's performance relative to the alternatives.
"If we're grading on a curve, the president should get an A. John McCain would not have been able to do nearly as good of a job under the current circumstances," says Dr. Leon, who is the host of the Sirius/XM satellite radio show, "On with Leon."
Dr. Leon makes a very good point. McCain would have been a tragedy for our nation, continuing the downward trajectory of his predecessor. At the same time, it's hard to grade on a curve when there are only two people in the class. It is my greatest wish that one day, American political leadership will be given to the best person for the job, rather than the most politically-wired graduate of Harvard University. We can't trust socially-disconnected Ivy League institutions to be the sole guides for our nation's destiny.
Georgetown University Professor Christopher Metzler gives the president a lower grade:
"The president has earned a B-. He came into office promising change. However, his administration looks, thinks and behaves no differently from previous administrations," says Dr. Metzler, who is an attorney. "To his credit, he appears to have averted a financial crisis. Transforming America requires that he reform the way that Government works, not tweak the edges. Government does not need to be reinvented, it needs to be invented. This requires innovation, not recycling."
We also must acknowledge that when it comes to Obama's performance, it's too early to tell. This is the first quarter of a four quarter game, and right now, the score is tied. Obama's work during the next three years will tell us much more about him as a man and as a leader than what we've learned during the first year. He is also a young politician, with tremendous upside. I sincerely hope that this time next year, we'll be able to give him a better grade. Long story short, we're cheering for him to be successful.

On Killing Grandma: The billions that he gave to Corporate America should have gone to those on fixed incomes to spend. There are Americans that have worked all of their lives only to find that they will not receive the former Social Security Annual Increase. There are thousands of people that have been on the Social Security Disability roster waiting to go before an Adjudicating Law Judge, while many are dying or will die before ever getting the chance. Goodbye Grandpa, Grandma et al.

1.“Attorney General Eric Holder Gets on Black Fathers: Why He is Wrong” by Dr. Boyce Watkins
1) One in three black men in their twenties is under some form of supervision by the justice system. It’s tough to be a dad when you live in a nation that has adopted mass incarceration of black men as the way to get cheap labor. Then, for those men who try to reintegrate in to society, there are hurdles to employment and education that Holder and others have yet to remedy. A man can’t take care of his family if he is in prison, and it’s difficult for him to feed his family if no one will hire him. If you want to solve many of the parenting problems, you can start by not putting so many fathers in the penitentiary, especially those guilty of non-violent offenses or who’ve been convicted because they could not get adequate legal counsel. By the way, it may help to give them rehabilitation options while they are incarcerated, rather than simply punishing them.
2) Attorney Holder, did you also know that black male unemployment is as high as 40 percent to 50 percent in many urban areas? What do you think whites would do to you if they were facing 40 percent unemployment and had to hear you give them a speech about personal responsibility? If whites are screaming about 10 percent unemployment, how would they respond to the unemployment rates experienced by our community?
3) Mr. Holder, can you please take a visit to your buddy Barack Obama and let him know that the inner-city educational systems put black boys in special education at a rate that is five times higher than white kids? Please also explain to the president that many of these young men are not being taught to read and are being pushed out in to an economic system with few opportunities, leading them right to the penitentiaries. I am not sure how much time Columbia University (where Holder attended law school, like the rest of his Ivy League chums) spends teaching about the school-to-prison pipeline, but he might want to read up on it.
4) Oh yeah, Mr. Holder, with all due respect, there are quite a few white absentee fathers also. The divorce rate in white America is more than 50 percent, which means that, technically, half of all white dads are not in the homes with their kids. The next time you go speak to a group of white Americans, I dare you to give the same speech you’re giving in African American churches. White folks aren’t so quick to allow a black man to come in to their churches to tell them that they are screwed up and that the government (for which they pay taxes) has no responsibility in helping with their plight. For some reason, black people are very good at beating up on themselves.
5) Mr. Holder, just in case you and President Obama are unaware, there’s usually a woman involved in most heterosexual relationships. Do you think it might be possible that some men are excluded from the lives of their children by the child’s mother, or have we decided to simply follow the trend and blame the black male for every single one of society’s ills? When specifically addressing the break down of the black family, we may want to move past the “black man musta done it” model of analysis. There are thousands of black men across America who’ve been estranged from their children by mothers who’ve become overbearing in the management of their children’s lives. This is not to say that all mothers are in the wrong, but we all know that both women and men are not perfect.

In addition….
If You Succeed Inner-City Black Man, Woman, or Child, You Deserve a Medal of Honor, Valor, a Bronze Star, a Purple Heart, an Honorary Doctorate….
….. because it is quite an accomplishment to pull yourself up by your own bootstraps to succeed and make something of yourself in inner-city Black America, for life in the ‘Hood’ can be quite perverted to say the least!
Normal institutions of government that truly function in other communities are a colossal failure, free enterprise is virtually non-existent, the larger than life real criminal element walk free, the book of criminal prosecution is reserved for low level criminals, far too often the innocent end up behind bars, accused and punished, fined and criminally, indicted without just cause, are maimed or killed by rogue police officers, and some of our own so-called university educated lawyers, and judges are directly and/or indirectly responsible for this miscarriage of justice.
The community of the inner-city, the so-called university educated of middle, upper-middle, and the affluent class of Black America are apathetic, and sometimes contribute to this perverted activity through their own incompetence.
(Los Angeles Superior Court Cases #C895188, #BS111697, and #BC385899). Furthermore, the so-called well connected university educated Black middleclass within the Black community will defend and support the right to gainful employment for felonious criminal illegal immigrants, will promote a hypocrite, while kicking to the curb the right to gainful employment, the right to “Equal Justice and Protection Under the Law”, “Due Process”, other Federal and State mandated U.S. Constitutional Protections, of truly law abiding U.S. born Black men and women who have served this nation honorably in the U.S. military. (Los Angeles Superior Court Cases #C895188, #BS111697, and #BC385899)
Heck, incompetent Black probation officers have placed minors, including infants, on probation in Los Angeles County. University educated Black social workers have contributed to the destruction of the traditional Black family structure, by breaking up two parent families, without legal authority, where neither parent nor any child has been proven to be criminal, insane, incorrigible, and/or incompetent in any court jurisdiction within the United States of America. (Los Angeles Superior Court Case #C895188)
In regards to the so-called Christian Community of Black America, lack of genuine Christian thought and action are nonexistent for the ministers, far too often, are only concerned about number one, the various church congregations contribute tidings to support these greedy, jack-leg, poverty pimping preachers, beyond belief, and the churches have become huge arenas to increase the size of gate receipts.
The churches of Black America, may very well lose their tax exempt status, for the many churches of inner-city Black America function like banking institutions, for the benefit of a few, at the expense of those who contribute their hard earned tidings, and this violates the very reason for tax exemption status.
The church is exempt from taxation, solely for the purpose of uplifting its’ people, meaning U.S. born Black people in this instance. The so-called civil rights organizations do more harm than good, in that they too, have failed to truly represent truly law abiding Black people, who are U.S. citizens by birthright, who have legitimate causes, claims, etc.
The self-serving elitist inner-city elected leadership of Black America do not serve inner-city Black America at all, and many times these so-called elected leaders play games, use false pretenses to hold elected office, and pimp the community, just like the jack-leg sacrilegious preachers. The actions of the policing authorities and court officers (judges, public defenders, city attorneys) take advantage of this golden opportunity afforded them, due to lack of true representation in our community, and many times blanket Black people, who are U.S. citizens by birthright, as the criminal element…
……with or without valid evidence. Far too many individuals from our own legal community be it a civil, criminal, and/or public defender attorney, who are also Black like you and I, will side with the opposition, rather than competently represent law abiding Black U.S. citizens, and/or others who, or whom, have been violated by very serious atrocities of government, have been falsely accused, and/or illegally incarcerated.
(Los Angeles Superior Court Cases #C895188, #BS111697, and #BC385899) Even the journalism community of Black America (for instance the Los Angeles Sentinel, which claims to be ‘The Largest Black Owned Newspaper in the West) prints falsehoods about U.S. citizens of Black American heritage, with prior knowledge of the truth. On the topic of the pseudo civil rights organizations, such as the NAACP, which should now be named the national association for the advancement of certain people instead of the national association for the advancement of colored people, for the former description surely fits.
Any Black man, woman, or child resident within the “Hood”, who is a U.S. citizen by birthright, who makes something of his/her self, in spite of all the shortcomings of inner-city Black America, deserves a medal of valor, a medal of honor, the Purple Heart, a Bronze Star, and an Honorary Doctorate, just for making it out of inner-city Black America alive and/or unscathed, in view of all the negatives of living in the ‘Hood’.
If we as Black people, who are U.S. citizens by birthright, are to have any future at all, here in the United States, we all must roll up our sleeves and really take an active part in changing this picture, for the future posterity of Black America rests on what each one of us do today, to make inner-city Black America, and/or any other similar economically deprived and misrepresented community predominated by Black people, a better place to live.
President Barack Obama is not worthy of a A, B, C, or D. He deserves and F, and bar none, President Obama will go down in history as being the worst President ever, especially as it relates to truly representing the "rank and file", U.S. born Black men, women, and/or their siblings being inclusive!

Mr Lofton,
People like you need to be in the forefront so they will hear your voice. I am a service in the community to help humans reach goals by way of the ARTS. All the literature I write is to help them. Life is comprised by many different areas. My interest is humans and helping them at least get where they one to go in life. For their are far to many road blocks for many humans as if they are targeted. What you said is so true. I was given a class assignment to see how many African Americans utilize the internet and after the assignment one responder wrote back and asked me to contact two of their friends. One told me as a youth growing up in Los Angeles, he had teachers who gave him poor grades and talked down to him. When this happens later the youth will start thinking it. Today they are serving LWP and I always said, if the teacher and his childhood status would have been different he would be a Philosopher or another field. One thing I did hear after all these years, was that he wrote a book for management fields of work. I encouraged them to write and even though his life was taken to the DOC, he still has his works to prove his worthiness. He also got married to a VP of a business and they are happy. Many youth have to struggle against all odds just like you stated in your literature on here. Yes they do deserve a badge of honor, purple heart and et al.
I may run for office to serve and I will surely inform them of your feelings.
Thanks for your candidacy.

The only attention I want the President to pay to black America is to send the National Guard into black communities and cleanse them of the gangs, drug dealers, rapist, child molesters and those just intent on violent behavior. Tell blacks they sign their own death warrant with the madness of no snitching by letting violent criminals get away with crimes against other blacks. Tell black men to pull up their pants and stop looking like they are ready for anal sex at the drop of their pants from other men. Just like they did when they were in prison. Tell black women to stop birthing another generation of lost and dangerous children from sperm donors. I want him to make it safe for black children to go to school, put them in uniforms, demand disipline and demand that blacks make the educating their children their number one priority. For black men to take any legal job like other recent immigrant men do and build reputations as hard workers. Stop being unrealistic that someone owes them a job with high pay when they don’t even have a high school diploma and can’t read, write or speak clear understandable English. Black communities have become killing fields and there are very few black men strong enough to stand up to the scum and thugs because they say they are scared. Gone are the brave black men who stood up to the KKK with nothing more then their bravery and determination to be called and treated like a man. Tell them to come out of hiding and living in fear of other blacks who have set black progress back to the age of the black face coon jungle bunny minstrel show with rap that whites just love. Stop waiting for the strong fist of white men to make the streets safe again. The president made it plain blacks have to get off their asses and make things right for themselves and as a race. There will be no handouts and no show jobs. No something for nothing from the man and I support him and Bill Cosby for that.

Too bad some negative comments made their way here, because I thought this was a pretty balanced assessment of the president's first year in office. The president and I agree on very little, economically, but as you say the alternative was no better.
I can't speak to his lack of help for the black community, but I will say it seems he has abandoned all promise of help for lower-middle class Americans (regardless of color). But that's what happens when you cozy up to unions and big corporations. I don't like seeing that from any politician--white, black, Republican, or Democrat. Unfortunately, however, it seems to be a theme that crosses all boundaries.
I hope for the sake of our country (I could care less about Obama's personal legacy) that things turn around over the next few years, and that we remember the hard economic lessons we've learned.

Has anyone read "Esoteric Agenda"?. President Obama really is not the "head" of this nation, Great Britain and the bankers run this country. When the bankers withdraw their currency from circulation, we have the 1929 depression effect, again and again. Some believe that industry is "broke", but it is only the government that is broke. Big business (as you can see with the bail out money flow) is striving now. But we the people are not getting anything to lighten our burden - poor is poorer - poorest. These condition are predicted/planned. Barack Obama is not the "African American" as we think of this title. Negroes tend to think that because he is a person of color he is African-American (decendant of slavery), when is is revealed that his father is a Native African, and his mother a Caucasian American. President Barack Obama in my opion, is the putting of a "black mask" on a more serious situation, ie: NWO. In furthering the cause of the "agenda" his doing his job well.

I'm sorry.... has President Obama been in office for 3 years and I hadn't realized it? Wow. I see several F's for someone who hasn't even been in office a year yet. I also see a disturbing amount of hatred for this man...from both blacks and whites. In my opinion, most of you doing the whining, moaning, crying etc. that he hasn't done anything for us, he hasn't kept his promises are part of the reason this country is in this mess in the first place. Quick fixes don't work people!! Open your eyes!! Damn!!! We didn't get into this mess overnight and it damn sure can't be fixed in less than a year. If you put on 100 pounds in 5 years, do you honestly think you can lose it in a week? If you do, then I want to know what drugs you're taking. I want everyone to think about the hatred they're spewing towards our president and think about this: When your life ends and you face judgement for all of your actions... good and bad..... how are you going to explain your hatred for this man?

Had no ideal how to run a country instead take America for thier money and run after eight years. Every one that came out of his mouth I see it coming true. I just wish he had gotten to it first before S was planted into mother earth. I thank God every day for sending someone to clean up the mess. I know it will take some time to clean up but in the meantime I refues to listen to S others say about our President. If you can not accept the truth than to H with you and the D.
