Beyonce performed in St. Barts at one of the most star-studded New Years Eve bashes this year for the likes of Lindsay Lohan, Russell Simmons, her husband Jay-Z, Usher and Jon Bon Jovi--and the family of terror-happy Libyan dictator Moammar Gaddafi footed the bill.
Mediaite.com first reported on Sunday that the Gaddafi family threw the party, and Tuesday Page Six confirmed that the host was Moammar's youngest son, the aptly-named Hannibal, who has been involved in a number of violent incidents in recent years.
Just Christmas Day Hannibal, 33, reportedly beat his wife, Libyan model Aline Skaf, 29, until her face was bleeding heavily and her nose was clearly broken. Three of his security guards were arrested and Hannibal got off on diplomatic immunity. In 2005 he was arrested, but not charged, for punching Skaf and wielding a handgun in a Paris hotel.
In 2008 Hannibal and his then-pregnant wife were detained in Switzerland for beating their servants in a luxury hotel. His dad retaliated for his son's mistreatment by arresting Swiss nationals and closing Swiss businesses, sparking a diplomatic crisis, and charges were dropped. In 2004 Hannibal made a name for himself when he led a high-speed police chase, driving drunk and on the wrong side of the road through central Paris. Again he was protected by diplomatic immunity. He has also been involved in several police scuffles.
I am sure that Beyoncé was paid good money for this New Year's Eve performance, and it must have been wonderful to be surrounded by fellow celebrity friends and her husband. But it seems a little mindless to keep your mind only on your money and not on the larger implications of who you are doing business with. You would think the world-wide contempt for persons linked to terrorism, no matter how distant the connection, would have made Mrs. Jigga think twice before taking the cash of a person with such a history. But a close relative of a long-standing enemy of the United States? That was a bad moral and a bad business move.
As the Tiger Woods scandal has shown, bad moral moves and business moves are very often closely related. I am sure that Beyoncé and her handlers did not mean any harm, and were just not thinking too hard when they made this business deal. They were probably blinded by a check with a whole lot of zeroes. But as this story spreads across the Web, the fire of public outrage may actually cost more than this paycheck was worth.

There is no excuse. The fact is that this is not just Beyonce that is turning a blind eye. She has handlers and managers and hairstylists, manicurists, make up artists, in fact tons of people who surround her all day long. Are you going to tell me that no one in her camp is up on current events? Since youth and ignorance seem to be the excuse of the day, are you going to tell me that every single person that handled this situation is too young to know?? This is about making money. Don't be fooled. Let's call a spade a spade people. Beyonce can certainly perform where ever she feels like it, but she also has to own up to the responsibilities of her actions.

The George Bush administration reestablished normal diplomatic relations with Libya in 2006. The Bush administration no longer consider them a threat. The US government and corporations are all doing business with Libya. So how is it that the US government and corporations can do business with Libya but regular ordinary citizens cannot. Libya has went a long way in trying to redeem themselves. It's like saying the United States never needed to do anything else with Japan because of Pearl Harbor or with Germany because of the Holocaust. If a country tries to change, why do we keep holding past transgressions against them. Our US government and corporations aren't.

Both the European Union and the US started to reeestablish ties with Libya in 2003. Libya has not been accused of any sponsoring of terrorism since 1994. They've been trying to work with the US and European Union since then. George Bush said that the US no longer considered them a threat. There are plenty of American companies doing business with Libya now. A lot of this info and reference articles are on Wikipedia.

No, I think it's fair to know all the facts before people go around accusing people of something. I don't think it's fair once our US goverment hasn't deemed this country a threat and American companies are doing business with them. Why would a private citizen be attacked for doing business with them. Obviously, Beyonce isn't the only entertainer that has performed for them. So is that's why her and the other entertainers didn't think anything was wrong with performing for this family because the US government is saying that the country is no longer a threat.

I kind of expect this from most of the celebrity names mentioned in the article, but JON BON JOVI? What was he thinking going to a party hosted by a Gaddafi!! He IS OLD ENOUGH TO KNOW BETTER! If the above story is true, I am a huge fan but right now I am ashamed of him.

The US worked with Japan after Pearl Harbor after they no longer considered them a threat. Libya didn't attack the US mainland. Many US soliders died fighting Germany in two wars, and we're back are on friendly terms with them now.

Listen........the name alone should have been a "red flag" for her. Does this girl never turn on the t.v. or pick up a newspaper? Is she unfamiliar with the internet? Has she never heard the name "Moammar Gaddafi" in this day and age? And that goes for that douchebag Bon Jovi...and any other *American* that has no problems getting cozy with the very people who hate us as a nation (Sean Penn, anyone?). I'm sorry for racial profiling here......but common sense prevails...at a time when America is at war with the Middle East, and we don't know who we can trust or not....anyone with a Middle Eastern name needs to be checked out first. As a star, I would want to know firsthand whose money was crossing my palm before I would even consider being hired by them. Sorry...but it's liberal people like the aforementioned that I consider a danger to this nation, as well. There's a time when worrying about being politically correct (or just greedy) needs to take a backseat. Any American citizen who wants to be in the same bed with the very people who wouldn't think twice about destroying us, need to pack their bags, IMO. If Beyonce (and the others) are going to be this ignorant (or just plain uncaring), then I think they need to get off of the stage post haste and do a little research on terrorists and dictators against America. Pretty sad when they pimp themselves out to the highest bidder with no conscience whatsoever.
