President Obama: Stimulus Bill Has Saved Two Million Jobs

Comments (1)

President Obama's 2009 emergency spending measures saved two-million jobs, according to the White House on Wednesday. Obama has requested additional emergency measures to increase jobs, in addition to the $787 billion stimulus package signed in February of 2009, in an attempt to reduce double-digit unemployment rates.Christina Romer, head of Obama's Council of Economic Advisers, stresses that there is definitely a need for additional "targeted action" to aid employment. A $155 billion job package was approved last month by the House of Representatives and is expected to hit the Senate in the next few weeks. In this case, 3.5 million jobs are expected to be saved by the year's end.

Very interesting information Mr. President. I don't disagree with the possibility that the plan may have saved jobs. One can hope that additional stimulus spending would improve the economy in some way. The things that we might all be concerned about are the following:

1) The national debt has sky-rocketed under Obama. While I feel that borrowing funds and spending them was a necessary move, we are now like the family that maxed out its credit cards in order to get through a job loss. This is going to come back to haunt our kids worse than global warming.

2) The White House is always going to be optimistic about how many jobs they saved. Since it can't be proven that they actually saved two million jobs, the Obama Administration really doesn't have evidence that the stimulus worked. Simultaneously, no one has evidence that it actually DIDN'T work either. Funny point, huh?

3) Black unemployment remains a non-issue for our first black president. While President Obama himself cannot address black unemployment, I remain hopeful that one of his underlings can put together some kind of commit or task force to deal with black unemployment. Obama risks being labeled as a racial coward if he doesn't step his game up on this critical issue.
