Shyne has been banned from the United Kingdom due to his criminal history, which has short-circuited the strong comeback he was expecting. In spite of all this, Shyne recently signed a $1 million dollar deal with Def Jam Records.
Shyne's last album release was "Godfather Buried Alive," released in 2004. The album didn't get the same response as his debut album, making him a risky investment.
Here are the reasons the world loves Shyne, but why I wouldn't invest a penny in him as an artist:
1) He is the return of The Notorious BIG: Shyne's strong, smooth vocals remind us of Biggie, and that's why hip hop loves his music.
2) He went to prison nearly a decade ago: Does the world really want the same music that they loved in 2001? I doubt it. At the very least, this is not the kind of risk that most corporations would want to take.
3) It's all about marketing: Shyne's inability to get to the United States implies that no matter how great his music is, he won't be able to promote it as easily as everyone else. If you lose the game of marketing, then you're losing the game of sales. That's all that matters in mainstream music.
