If have have pockets as deep as 50 Cent, file this under things not to try at home. Rapper and business mogul Curtis Jackson is being sued for editing himself into a private sex tape as part of a humorous take on his successful 'Pimpin' Curly' Webisode series. Gothamist reports:

A Florida woman, Lastonia Leviston, has sued rapper 50 Cent in Manhattan for editing himself-wearing a curly wig-into her personal sex tape...

The rapper, real name Curtis Jackson, got his hands on Leviston's sex tape which she filmed in 2008 with Maurice Murray-she says since then he has unlawfully distributed it over the Internet. 50 Cent shows up in the video providing a voice-over narration and full-on commentary in his Pimpin' Curly persona (including a shocked moment when he discovers condoms are not being used). MTV reports that he released it on ThisIs50 as "part of a long-running beef [with Rick Ross], which featured a number of dis-heavy mixtape songs, [and] mocking videos." Leviston is allegedly one of Ross's baby mamas, and has his initials tattooed on her chest.

Leviston's lawsuit, filed yesterday, claims unauthorized use of her name/image and emotional distress caused since the public release of the video... which is still online!

While it is understandable that 50 Cent would use this woman, and the pop-sensationalist medium of a sex tape, to take jabs at his rival Rick Ross, it is unclear why such an astute businessman would expose himself to the risk of being sued. Even the smallest companies have legal teams for vetting this type of thing, and let's face it -- people only sue for copyright infringement if you are worth suing. As a rapper who earned $20 million in 2009 and a veteran of the music industry, Curtis must have known that he could have been on the receiving end of a law suit for stealing someone else's media property.

Let's hope 50 Cent's legal team can get its act together before what started out as a great practical joke that boosted his business and brand ends up costing him cold, hard cash.
