I have a tremendous amount of respect for Michael Eric Dyson, one of my great scholarly heroes. I recently spoke with Professor Dyson, who teaches at Georgetown University, on the issue of Wall Street and financial reform. While I will one day bring him into my turf (
our show here on AOL BV), I went onto
his new radio show, which has launched with a blast. When discussing Obama and his efforts to reform Wall Street, many of us have a hard time differentiating hype vs. substance, politicking vs. policing. Obama has a firm commitment toward consumer protection, but regulating the wealthiest members of our society has never been a productive endeavor for Washington politicians.
The interview is below if you'd like to listen. Enjoy!

Here they go again, just like a broken record.
Wonder why these black so-called scholars and pseudo-intellectuals can find nothing better to do with their talents (????) than whine, whine, whine about President Obama becaude hes han not sent out welfare checks?
I'm still waiting for someone to tell me what these people have done that benefits the black community. After all of these months no one has offered anything.
But these two, along with the other black blovaters seem to have a lot of time to sit around trying to undermine President Obama. The republicans and the much of the white media has been doing this since before the President took office with the black pseudo-intellectuals and scholars and pundits happy to do their part.
While these people are ever so happy to blovate for the white boys and girls on national tv, they are pretty silent about the hateful anti-Obama and anti-black rhetoric and comments, e-mails, posters, bumper-stickers and gun toting clowns. Maybe they have been on the planet Mars for the past 17 months and have missed the all of this.
The republicans in Congress have done everything in their power to try to derail President Obama. And what do we get get from the black blovaters?
Silence. Absolutely nothing. Not a peep. Where are the comments supporting the President?
These people will run over their own children in order to jigg for the white boys and girls. Yet they have nothing of substance to offer.
Name one pundit, commentator, black public scholar, black public intellectual or any of the whinners who appear white tv network shows to bash President Obama who has done a single thing to help the black community. If you glued a map of a black neighborhood to the tip of their noses, they still could not find a black neighborhood.
Ask them to name any job training programs they sponsored? How many of them work to teach standard English to people who, while born in this country, still cannot speak it? How many high-school dropouts have they mentored? How many are conducting tutoring programs? Or trying to rid the black community of drugs? Or trying to educate clueless people to stop having baby after baby that cannot take care of?
Personally, they all make me want to throw up.

I agree, they do a lot of finger pointing, but not one has run for any office, city, state or federal level. Lead, follow or get out of the way. They need to get out of the way

While I agree that sometimes these and other popular black scholars often seem to re-present the same issues over and over again, I also think that just writing off their efforts as whining because the president has not sent out any welfare checks is just plain ridiculous.
The fact of the matter is that at the end of the day, Barack Obama is an elected official, and ALL elected officials MUST be criticized and held accountable. No matter if they are black, white, green, grey, or whatever. They have a job, and that job is to represent their constituency. NO PERSON deserves blind faith because at they are merely human just as you and I, being susceptible to influence and temptation just the same. Even Jesus himself said in the scripture, "Do not believe me unless I do the works of my Father. But if I do them, even though you do not believe me, believe the works...". Clearly it is of utmost importance to judge a person based on what they do, and not on what they say or claim to be.
"Where are the comments supporting the President?" - Have you ever listened to Michael Eric Dyson before, or did you just take what you heard in this ONE interview and run with it??? If you had, then you would know that he was and still is a big time Obama supporter. As far as those other pundits/commentators/black public scholars/black public intellectual/and whiners that you refer to, most if not all of them were all behind the President during his campaign, and a major reason he was elected. But that doesnt relive them of their duties as citizens to ask what our representative is doing.
Then you try to make the case that they are all talk and arent really doing any work in the community... While you are correct in some cases, the facts are that these people are actually involved a great deal in the community. Your statement is based on pure speculation, and emotions. Next time do a little fact checking before you go around tearing down our influential brothers, and sisters, and writing them off as uncle Toms.

Obama lost me when he didn't go after the criminals in the Bush Administration...you wouldn't be any less worse off if you tuned into Alex Jones.

The question still remains:
While these people are ever so happy to blovate for the white boys and girls on national tv, they are pretty silent about the hateful anti-Obama and anti-black rhetoric and comments, e-mails, posters, bumper-stickers and gun toting clowns. Maybe they have been on the planet Mars for the past 17 months and have missed the all of this.
The republicans in Congress have done everything in their power to try to derail President Obama. And what do we get get from the black blovaters?
Silence. Absolutely nothing. Not a peep. Where are the comments supporting the President?
Now just what are you talking about? Not about the questions I asked.

Mr. Dyson might have been a supporter before, but it didn't sound like it in Chicago. I feel it was exceptionally disrespectful and in very bad taste to go to the President's home town and convene a panel to criticize the President not having a "Black Agenda." Knowing full well that the Republicans are doing everything in their power against President Obama. Should he have a so called Black Agenda? Maybe. If so how long do you think it would take him to implement an agenda, if he announced it? I think it was a shrewed move by Travis Smiley to have put all of that together in the home town of the President. Even Minister Farakhan had something negative to say on the Pesident. The Nation of Islam used to preach self help, but now it seems like they have joined the ranks of begging.
