'Financial Lovemaking': Does Tiger's Wife Deserve $750 Million?

Let's be clear: Tiger Woods' wife, Elin Nordegren, will probably not have her request for $750 million in the divorce settlement honored by any judge in his or her right mind. After all, Tiger's net worth, according to Forbes magazine, is only $600 million. But many eyebrows were raised and arched by the mere fact that she had the audacity to ask for nearly three-quarters of a billion dollars, in addition to full custody of their children and also refuses to sign a confidentiality clause. She's clearly going for the jugular.

Some are applauding Elin's bold move, saying that Tiger deserves whatever he gets after proving himself to be a cheater. Some are saying that she's greedy, since she hasn't swung a golf club in any of the professional tournaments in which Tiger earned his wealth. To break down the dollar amounts that Elin is requesting, look at it this way: To get $750 million for six years of marriage, she would earn $125 million per year, more than any athlete in the world. That would also be $2.4 million per week, $342,456 per day and $14,269 per hour.

Does someone deserve that much money for dealing with a bad relationship? What about the rest of us who've gone through heartbreaks of our own? Would you put up with Tiger's cheating for that kind of money?

In this episode of 'Financial Lovemaking,' S. Tia Brown and I discuss Tiger and his complex divorce. This situation looks like it's going to get worse before it gets better. Tiger may be playing for the next 10 years just to pay off his marriage debt.
