The reason the Obama administration is being made to look politically impotent is because this oil spill has drenched our collective conscience with another uncomfortable reality about America: Politics is heavily and uncomfortably controlled by money. While every politician is the first in line to argue that he or she is not in the pockets of big oil, it's very difficult to hold that position when you are actually forced to prove it. By allowing oil to ruin our shores and destroy the lives of millions of Americans, BP is practically daring Obama to stand up to them, forcing his administration to back down whenever it does.
Why are they backing down? Well, let's see. Exxon, the largest company in the oil and gas industry, earned $40 billion in profits last year. Yes, that's profits, not revenue. In case you're wondering, that's more money than any company has ever earned in the history of the entire world. BP, Exxon's baby brother, earned $16 billion in profits last year. Therefore, BP earns roughly $44 million per day, and when you bring home that kind of bacon, politicians fear you worse than the mafia.
This oil spill is not only embarrassing to the administration and sad to watch, it's going to be made more painful by the fact that some expect it to last all summer. Many experts estimate that oil is going to spill for several more months, keeping this issue on our TV screens until football season. With every news segment about how badly the oil has destroyed the shores of the gulf, there will be a follow-up interview with some poor fisherman who has lost his entire life savings because of the tragedy. Each of these interviews will make the Obama administration appear that much weaker and incompetent in the face of such an embarrassing corporate debacle. Right now, anyone and everyone responsible for cleaning up this spill is being made to look like the Keystone Kops.
Critics on the right will try to ridicule Obama's inability to step in handle the situation, even though they know they would be doing the same thing he's doing right now. While Democrats get quite a bit of money from oil companies, the Republican party accepts three times as much. Critics on the left, many of whom wanted to believe that Obama loves the environment as much as they do, are going to wonder why he isn't sticking it to BP and shutting it down the way it has irresponsibly shut down so many American businesses. But sorry, my friends. Obama isn't the bleeding heart liberal you thought he was. He is part of the establishment, meaning that he's got about as much political flexibility as a redwood tree.
Who's going to be left holding the bag? The American taxpayer. BP will ruin our coastline and pay some kind of fine, but most of the expense is going to be picked up by the rest of us. According to the Oil Pollution Act of 1990, the maximum liability that can be faced by an oil company during a spill is $75 million. Yes, that's less than two days worth of profits for BP, meaning that after this spill is over, it's going to be business as usual. Energy companies have more power than the government can ever effectively combat, so this oil spill is a wide-open education on the state of American politics.

Why is the"News People" comparing the destruction this oil plant (yes, it was destroyed, out of negligence and carelessness) with a natural occurance as a HURRICANE ? Is the President of any country responsible for these occurances ?

Those who blame the big bad oil companies for everything and sneer at their higher per day profits, take a look at your what kind of car you drive, how many unncessary lights are on in your house, how often your air conditioner is on when it's nice outside or the thermostat is set lower than needed.

Sniffing Political Blood in the Oil Spill
Earl Ofari Hutchinson
http://earlofarihutchinson.blogspot.com
"The instant the BP ooze hit the Gulf’s surface the sniff of political blood was steady and strong. Virtually every reputable scientist, engineer, and technician made the point that given the complexity of the spill, the technical challenges, and constraints on the regulatory power of government’s agencies, the Obama administration has done everything it could to staunch the spill.
But the cry still is: Blame Obama for it.
"The worst part is that a big chunk of the press has beaten the blame Obama for the spill drum. The issue is not what Obama or the government could or couldn’t do, but how to wound Obama".
"Obama has acted diligently, responsibly and professionally in dealing with an unexpected crisis that would have caught any administration off guard. A significant number of Americans understand this and even those critical of Obama for his handling of the spill still tag BP as the real bad guy. Still, no matter how well managed, disasters carry political risks, the BP spill is no different. The GOP will do everything it can to tag it as Obama’s disaster".

BUT WE SHOULD ALL REMEMBER THIS: What passes for media and journalism has always, always, always from the first been trying to undermine President Obama. Look at who their guest are on the chat shows and watch how much of it is softball questions to republicans and some blacks (those pseudo-scholars and interllectuals) while they do and say whatever they can to make the President look bad. There is not a single chat show (except KO, RM and ES) on network and cable television whose hosts do not make it easy for the republicans.
They have blocked his appointments so that they can say that he can't get anything done, they outright lie with no follow up from the hosts, and on and on.
We all know this is happening but there don't seem to be many people pushing back. Not even members of the Democratic party.
AND ESPECIALLY NOT THOSE BLACK COMMENTATORS, SCHOLARS, INTERLECTUALS, OR WHATEVER THEY CALL THEMSELVES WHO WOULD SELL THEIR FIRST BORN TO GET ON THE TV WITH THE WHITE BOYS AND GIRLS TO SELL THE PRESIDENT OBAMA DOWN THE RIVER.
Where are the black people with a voice who should be speaking out?
Are the few bucks they get worth selling their souls for?

First we got 911 now we get this oil spill. Will the contractors be investigated including former VP Cheney's Haliburton company?
Something smells here and it was probably done to make the president look bad and to provide him with his own Katrina. I was skeptical but now I am starting to agree with many others who believe this to be so.

it's sad to see so many stupid peoples in the United State you blame the President for every thing that goes bad that was not his fault. when did this drilling start? Is it because he 1/2 black don't take my word for it, but look it up for your self on your computer under Presidents and you will see that he is not the only 1/2 black President.no one ever asked for their birth record. this digging started about nine years ago. so who gave them the o.k. to dig?THINK.
