While these neighborhoods may be "hidden gems", the cities are expensive. I live in San Diego and it is extremely expensive. Gas tops out at 3.99/gal., rentals $1,000 for a one bedroom, etc; African-Americans are 5% of the total population which is approximately 3mil. And sistas, there aren't a lot of African-American men that are into us. So think outside of the box if you plan to relocate to San Diego. Now having said all that, I do enjoy my city. The weather is perfect and the people are great. The Black churches are spiriturally nourishing. While there isn't an upscale African-American neighborhood, if want to live around other African-Americans, there's Valencia Park which has absolutely beautiful views of the city. It's an older neighborhood where the older African-American guard lived and now it's time for the younger African-Americans to continue the legacy. We are looking and wanting young African-Americans to relocate to our neighborhood. The housing stock is wonderful because all of the homes were custom built in the 40s and 50s on large lots.

I've actually been to Eden Prairie about 20 some years ago.. I don't remember it much, but I'm sure the town has grown immensely.
