Dr. Boyce Video -- Sherri Shepherd Stops by for a Conversation

Comments (9)

I like Sherri Shepherd very much. No, really I do. Unlike some of the less desirable creatures I've come across in "celebrity land," Shepherd is a gracious, humble and pleasant person to speak with. She's down-to-earth and not afraid to keep it real.

I say all this while keeping in mind that I had to join the chorus of folks calling both Shepherd and D.L. Hughley to the carpet for their sloppy statements about HIV in the African American community. I'm not sure how Shepherd feels about this, but it honestly doesn't matter more than the truth. All the while, I love Sherri more than any other cast member on 'The View,' and I can confirm to those of you reading this that she is every bit as real as she appears to be on TV.

With that said, Shepherd gave us the honor of stopping by for a visit in the AOL studios on what happened to be the same day that Juanita Bynum came by. It was an odd experience, with people tackling both of the women in the hallway as I tried to grab Sherri to meet our time deadline. What I respect most about Sherri is that she was there to talk about autism, which affects her 5-year old son Jeffrey.

According to the Autism Society of America, one percent of all young people under the age of 21 suffer from autism. In light of her son's condition, Sherri graciously gives her time to the YAI Network (oddly enough, their website doesn't tell you what YAI stands for). The organization partners with Shepherd to raise awareness on issues that affect those with disabilities. Please feel free to donate to the YAI Network now to support Sherri's favorite cause. The interview is below, enjoy!
