"A majority of Senators have tried not once, not twice, but three times to extend emergency relief on a temporary basis," Obama said from the Rose Garden, surrounded by a handful of individuals whose unemployment insurance had run out because of senatorial dithering. "Each time a partisan minority in the Senate has used parliamentary maneuvers to block a vote denying millions of people who are out of work much need relief. These leaders in the Senate who are advancing a misguided notion that emergency relief somehow discourages people from finding a job should talk to these folks. That attitude, I think, reflects a lack of faith in the American people." ...
As Obama and congressional Democrats have been eager to point out, Republicans do not apply the same fiscal discipline when it comes to the Bush administration's soon-to-expire tax cuts for the wealthy. Letting the tax cuts expire would save $678 billion over ten years, according to the Office of Management and Budget.
These Republican Senators are clearly acting out of a hypocritical desire to protect the donors who have given to their campaigns, rather than thinking clearly about what is in the best interest of the American people and the economy. To claim that $33 billion to help Americans with no other source of income will harmfully inflate the deficit more than letting the rich keep the $678 billion that will be generated by letting tax cuts expire is disingenuous. That $33 billion will clearly be spent right away on necessities, which will at least stimulate the economy in the short term, and could lead to enough growth to warrant more job creation. Helping the already rich to "save" -- when other people's lives are on the line -- holds no similar guarantee.
I applaud the president for finally taking a hard line and calling out these frauds. These Republican Senators seems to forget that they were elected to serve all of the American people, not just rich people with the assets to line their political war chests.

You wanna dance, fine I'll dance with you!
First of all, I asked one question, that you either couldn’t answer or wouldn’t answer. So ill asked again if they care so much why won’t they forgo their pork and help folks out? Your rationale that it’s always been there, doesn’t answer the question, as to why the wont use it to help.
Second, reducing or eliminating Pork for a short period of time for the good of the unemployed sounds damn good to me, plus the elimination or reduction will have ZERO effect on any municipality. They still have billions, plus their pork, so what da hell are u talking about.
Why don’t you explain to the good people:
Why is it more important to spend $21 million to re-sod the National Mall, then to help the unemployed?
Why is it more important to spend $2.4 billion for greenhouse projects, then to help the unemployed?
Why is it more important to spend 650 million for coupons for TV conversion then to help the unemployed?
And that’s just a partial list of the BS, democrats spent money on. I’m not saying republicans are guilt free, they are not. But democrats are not the good guys either.

Well......I'm white and I pay taxes and I applaud President Obama! He's a better man than we've had in the presidential office for quite a few years!
The very best way for the president to help the economy right now is to do away with Bush's tax cuts for the rich and make EVERYONE pay the exact same percentage of taxes on every bit of income! It seems like the more people make, the less they expect to contribute to their society.

"At least Jimmy Carter can rest now knowing that Obama took his place as the worst President in U.S. history."
Someone here wrote this: "there is no credence to the above statement." In fact, statistics show that another president is the worst in history. I believe that distinction belongs to Andrew Johnson. No one cares about your personal, unfounded, and obviously biased opinion. Please don't write here, because when you do you write like a stupid fool!

Why this U.S. is blaming everything on Obama? I've being laid off from a job I worked 21 years for 3 months then found another and was laid off from that job now going on 2 years. I'm on the Internet everyday looking doing social networking still haven't found anything. I'm going back to college under the WIA program to go into a whole new field medical. I want to get off unempolyment it a joke to get that little money that I worked hard for. The people at the unempolyment office are so ruin and nasty to people that are struggling to make ends meet.

When is the liberal voter base going to look around and notice that it has been systematically packed with poor people who for years and years have remained poor and dependent despite the high taxes, all the spending, rants and speeches by the democrats they felt obligated to vote for? How foolish must they feel to not realize that the people they are trained to hate, the successful businesses, are the only ones who can actually help them. How many poor people work for other poor people? I want to work for the richest SOB in town because I know if I do a good job there is a good chance I, too, will be successful. Standing with my hand out doesn't say much for my usefulness. I'm white. I grew up in deep poverty in a small northern town. Run down rental, no running water or inside toilet until I was 14 but all that time I didn't realize I was poor because my father went to work everyday making a small wage, mother worked sewing at home and we lived within our means just like everyone else in the area. We were offered but didn't take a DIME of county 'relief' money. We were proud but, I finally knew I was poor when the city politicians decided it would be a good idea to throw a Christmas party for 'disadvantaged' kids and I was invited. I went, looked around and didn't see any of my friends from school. I never got over the negative impact that had on me but the local politicians boasted about their sensitivity for the little people. Want to help us? Imprison or kill everyone involved in drug trafficking. How about educating us? Fat chance. Democrats....not all is lost. Republican business will be hiring again as soon as you have all been replaced.
