I brought Madam Prezident onto the show so that she could tell us about her background and how she got into spoken word and hip hop. A strong activist for young women, Shanelle knows first hand the challenges of growing up in inner city Chicago. Her father was killed when she was a child, which inspired her artistic career. Here is an example of her poetry, which I find to be strong, direct and riveting.
Her interview is also below. Enjoy!

AINT no way she is the "dopest Black poet in America". There are many Black poets who combine performance with great poetry; she is not one.

I have been in the game for 30 plus years. I have a web site that chronicles Black Spoken Word. To imply that I'm a hater when I've produced slams is ridiculous. The problem is your lack of knowledge: take the time to learn the game before you coach me. There are incredible Black poets out there; my criticism isn't as much of her but the ludicrous idea of calling her the "dopest Black poet in America". Opinion without knowledge is just a WORD!

If you want to know who my favorite spoken word artist happens to be, its Madam Prezident out of Chicago. Madam Prezident, aka Shanelle Walker, is a student at Kentucky State University. She sets the world on fire with cutting edge, hardcore, in-your-face poetry and social commentary. www.ecuggboot.com

Dr. Boyce interviews Madam Prezident. I loved the confidence and poise this young African American Female exhibited as she stated who she is and where she came from. "Stay strong, focused and continue writing what you believe in and feel."
I wrote my Poetry Anthology 30 plus years ago and recently published my work through Xlibris Corporation in Indiana, Illinois. I too am from Chicago and my work is all about "Love and Romance". Visit me at:

I am also a writer and poet. My book is called Hallelujah Hiden Treasures, published by Xlibris Publishing Company. I believe each person has an opinion and it's good to know, there are poets that can give "clean" messages without it being derogatory. Why does messages has to be derogatory? I believe messages reflect who we are, as a person with a hidden agenda.
