Tyler Perry has just purchased a 58-acre Georgia estate and plans to bulldoze it in preparation for brand-new construction. The original asking price for the Johns Creek property had been $40 million, which seems fair for a home that boasted everything from formal gardens to its own private band shell -- but it went unsold for 17 years. Tyler picked up this American version of Versailles for the bargain price of $7.6 million.

The entertainment mogul says he plans to demolish the whole compound and build his own home, one that is environmentally friendly and made of concrete, according to the New York Times.
An estate sale was held Friday... by the previous owner, Larry Dean, 67, who grew up without indoor plumbing in a low-income section of Atlanta, founded a financial services software company, Stockholder Systems Inc., in the early 1970s and became a millionaire many times over.
He and his first wife, Lynda, spent four years and $25 million building their own private Versailles, which they called "Dean Gardens" and finished in 1992. Their architect, Bill Harrison, said each square inch of it was given the attention to detail of a Faberge egg.
The Deans' dream was to raise their four children here in an atmosphere like "Dynasty," "only happy," and then leave the grounds to a foundation that would open it to the public for charity events.
But in 1993, shortly after finishing the house, the Deans separated and the house went on the market. It has languished there for the last 17 years. One potential buyer, Dean said, was Michael Jackson, who wanted the place in 1994 as a surprise for his fiancée, Lisa Marie Presley. But when the media reported Mr. Jackson's plan and ruined the surprise, he did not sign the contract.

Let's hope that Perry can make this home a happy one. If his personal life is as drama-filled as his multimillion-dollar film productions, that may be difficult -- but we wish him the best!

Congrates to TP for being able to do what he do.
I think its great. Plus those of us who work hard will gain. I don't have much but to me I have alot and I worked for it. My parents taught us to work hard and you will have something. I don't have what TP has but I do have someting to be proud of. I also have taught my three sons to do your best and the rest will fall in place.

How is this about money? Why does Black Voices choose to relate everything to celebrities and their activities in a section that should be giving out financial advise. Where's the tips for black people like budgeting, saving, investing and so forth. No instead we get article after article about some celebrity problems. This is not helpful to our community. It's not lifting us up. All this does is continue to distract our attention with mindless gossip. No one reading this is coming away with any information about how to make there lives better. We as a people need to demand more from those who want our patronage.

Tyler, building a house for one bigger than the Taj Mahal will still NOT fill the hole in your heart that only Christ can fill.
I truly hope you find the peace that passes all understanding.
Build a school, help someone help-worthy, feed the hungry.
I don't see how people with such excessive wealth can rest spending so much on themselves knowing there is so much to be done in the world.
I don't begrudge him happiness, but I know spending doesn't heal. Giving does.
Peace.

Tyler Perry is doing those things your are talking about. He is a philanthropist who once slept in his car. He works very hard and is reaping what he sowed. Not matter how you phrase it, you sound like a hater. People with millions spend millions. What is a sin and a shame is how terrible we treat one another.
Also, the man loved and took care of his mother. He honored her. Being able to live like a king is part of his blessing and his days shall be long on this earth because of it. Having money does not have to corrupt one's soul.

BB, I am not sure if you know much about Mr. Perry but he is a GIVER! He doesn't have to broadcast every act of giving he has taken part in but of those I do know about, he seems to give to some pretty good causes. He has been through a lot in his life and in his struggle to be where he is now. Through that journey, that man has kept his faith in tact and since he's been as successful as he is, he is one of a few celebrities outside the Chrisitian genre who acknowledges that his blessings come from God. He gives God praise and glory at all times. He does not shy away in talking about his Christian faith like so many others. He shares Godly wisdom with his audiences in his movies, plays and in his emails. Sharing his testimony with his fans as much as he has is enlightening, encouraging and a blessing more than he himself will ever know. Mr. Perry is a giver, he is also favored by God. When God is pleased, you can live this life with an overflow of blessings and abundance. It's there for all of us if we surrender and believe.

I still say, how can one rest in such opulence when so many needs exist in the world?
Yes, he told us how much he donated to New Orleans and so on. He told us how much he indulged his mother and he bought Oprah some $500,000 car (like she couldn't buy her OWN if she wanted?) I don't "hate" on anyone, I'm just suggesting..
There is so much that needs to be done and a few that have so much.
I don't have Tyler's earthly riches, but my joy came when I stopped taking care of one and giving to many. Just trying to share what I know to be true.
Again...Peace
BB

I luv TP. His success is an inspiration for all of us. He has come a long way, from sleeping in his car. It just goes to show you that hard work and determination goes a long way. TP has donated money to different charities. When people give from the heart and not for show and tell they dont brag about it. I hope he keeps God first in his life.
