I didn't meet Bruce George until this week. But I am happy to say that I was quite impressed with him. He's a good brother, an incredibly talented artist and the kind of person that says things that let you know that he has reflected deeply on his own life and sense of purpose.

Bruce is the co-creator of the highly successful series, Def Poetry Jam. The show has won an Emmy Award, but that's not all it's done. It has also inspired much of black America, where we've broken down the myth that people of color can only respond to a comedy show or hip hop music video. The poetry on the show was mind piercing, powerful and a strong reminder of the impact words can have on our psyches.
Only a man with the vision of Bruce George can help produce such an outstanding creation. I hope you enjoy learning more about him as I did in the video above.

interesting interview...
"the artist is a receptacle for emotions that come from all over the place: from the sky, from the earth, from a scrap of paper, from a passing shape, from a spider's web."

Bruce's response to the lack of lyricism in hip hop is on point. Its such a problem because the integrity of the art form has been dummied down to a level of 3rd grade reader which tells us one or two things. 1.) They lack the education and do not read or can not read or 2.) they have bought in to the mainstream minstrel show/ psychological brainwashing mechanism for the power of the all mighty dollar.
