If you're anything like the rest of us, you are probably sick and tired of much of the hip hop you hear on the radio. This is not to say that there aren't artists who produce quality music, but there are quite a few who show nothing less than complete disrespect for themselves, black women and the entire African American community. I'm a fan of hip hop, but not a fan of stupidity, especially when these images are teaching young brothers how to be black men.
So, in order for us to understand this issue a little better, I brought together a panel of experts on the topic. One of the experts is Chuck Creekmur, founder of Allhiphop.com, the largest hip hop website in the world. Secondly, there is Ayinde Jean-Baptist, a prominent activist. Jewell Allison is a spoken word artist and author of the book, "Stealing Peace." Finally, Queon Martin created a documentary called "Bridging the gap between history and hip hop." Enjoy!

Re: Will Smith and the picture of Big/Smalls on a So. African Hut
These images of gangsters, the thug, the un-educated , the man who didn't go to college(couldn't afford to go), has no money(no women) simply resonate with others around the world who are also without money, power, education and barely thriving below poverty. White American culture (capitalism) bought into and changed the history hip-hop had in it or any constructive means to inspire those needing a voice.
Economic Power starts with the control what we already have- our Children, what they buy, what they wear (It is up to the fathers to stop allowing your daughter out of the house looking like pros,) and what they are taught. Then we can bring back the history and music, REAL music,eg., Marvin Gaye, his vocals his lyrics with his musicians like Jas. Jamerson, Bassist), etc. I can only deal with the old school rap because of this.
Gee, I must be bored to have re -attempted another trial at hip-hop and listen in on this video.
Will be looking forward to watching that documentary about bridging the gap.

There's no future in mainstream (polluted) hip hop.
When a market becomes oversaturated with the same old repetitive (predictable) BS, it becomes boring and pathetic to watch while easier to ignore it.
Hip hop's expiration date has expired, it's only a matter of time when others begin to realize it's rotten.
Those that do not learn from history are doomed to repeat it. Change it up or lose your footing.

The state of music in general is at risk, and I too have strong opinions regarding Rap. As an Artist and Co-Founder of PangeaMusic.net, My partners, fellow musicians, and I set out to impact the industry with many tasteful representations of music. We market in the USA, and Europe. Part of the problem is that many people confuse hip-hop with Rap. We do both art-fully.
The Acronym = HIP-HOP Harmonious Indigenous, Peoples- History, of Oppression, & Politics. RAP is the son of Hip-Hop and so we embrace it, but it should be done tastefully.
In a Democracy we all have a choice to listen to the music that like and approve of. On my website are some really good hip-hop songs that cost 99 cents and also free songs too. I'm sure that you will like what you hear. We can debate about the conditions of Rap Music, but it is up to us find quality and set good example for our families.
