From The Young Black Professional Guide:
Sixteen-year-old Mariah Stackhouse, of Riverdale, Ga., has become the first ever African American to be chosen to serve as the 2011 player representative on the American Junior Golf Association board of directors.
Player representatives act as the face of the nonprofit organization, which is governed by a board of directors that meets quarterly to discuss topics affecting the state of the association. Stackhouse, just a junior in high school, has built quite a reputation playing in tournaments for the past four years, earning 12 top-10 finishes. This leadership position will only propel the young golfer forward, adding to her role model status.

Celebs and Their Moms
Raven-Symone & Lydia Pearman: The former 'Cosby Show' actress has had great success with TV hits and merchandising deals, and it's her parents who reportedly keep Raven in line as a bright, respectful professional.
Celebs and Their Moms
Tracy Ellis Ross & Diana Ross: The younger Ross followed in her mother's footsteps, capturing stardom as an accomplished talent in her own right on the show 'Girlfriends.'
Celebs and Their Moms
Tyra Banks & Carolyn London: Whether it's on her runaway hit, 'America's Next Top Model' or on her talk show, Tyra Banks always makes a place for her mother. Tyra often has credited her single mother with keeping her grounded.
Celebs and Their Moms
Bow Wow & Teresa Caldwell: Caldwell, who looks more like Bow's older sister, has been managing her young son's career from its inception, moving her family from Ohio to Atlanta when he began to work with Jermaine Dupri.
Celebs and Their Moms
Ray J & Sonia Norwood: Yet another "momager" to her children, Sonia Norwood is known in the industry as a hard-nosed businesswoman who is rabidly protective of her celebrity children, singers Brandy and Ray J.
Celebs and Their Moms
Beyonce & Tina Knowles: Mama Tina is credited with creating the unique fashion style of Destiny's Child -- Beyonce's launch pad to fame. The mommy and daughter duo are responsible for the design brand House of Dereon.
Celebs and Their Moms
Diddy & Janice Combs: That undying work ethic of Diddy's? Thank Mama Janice. After his father was murdered when young Sean was only three years old, Janice moved to the suburbs to make sure her son was safe and educated.
Celebs and Their Moms
Kelis & Eveliss Rogers: Kelis' mom, a fashion designer of Chinese and Puerto Rican descent, always encouraged her daughter's creativity and is most likely the biggest inspiration for the fashion iconoclast, who is expecting a child of her own.
Celebs and Their Moms
Queen Latifah & Rita Owens: When Owens starred as the mother of Latifah's character on the sitcom 'Living Single,' it was art imitating life. They leaned on each other when Latifah lost her brother in a tragic motorcycle accident.

"It is something that represents my entire body of work," Stackhouse said. "It lets other people see that I've worked very hard to get to this point, yet I was still humble about it and it's nice to be recognized. I always looked up to the player representatives and thought it would be really cool. When Mr. Hamblin called and asked me, I considered it such a blessing."

Stackhouse is currently ranked No. 19 in the Polo Golf Rankings and has prevailed on the green at the 2009 Ringgold Telephone Company Junior Classic and the 2010 AJGA Junior at Steelwood presented by AT&T.
"I am excited to provide what goes on in the mind of juniors out there on the road," Stackhouse said. "It is really going to be beneficial to learn how successful businesses are run and I think as player representatives we are able to play a big part of it."

You go girl! There are a lot of Tiger Woods, Venus and Serena Williams out there, they just need the help of our (black) people to help them. I hope our black celebrities and athletes who can help these young girls, reach out and help them instead of doing like Bill Cosby and going on the talk shows and discredit black mothers like he did. Our young people face so much adversity in this the white world we live in, I'm always glad to see young black people doing well. Good luck to you and your family and I will be sure to highlight you on my website: http://www.womeninsports-af.org.

Tiger Woods ain't no black celebrity.
1)He doesn't call himself blk
2)He looks like an Asian man dipped in chocolate
3)His father was only a fourth blk, so that makes him a fourth African!

This young lady seems like a very bright and talented person, with only good thing in her future, but comparing her to TW is asinine! When Tiger was 16 y/o he was one of the top 50 golfers on the planet, he could play at any level and absolutely dominated at his age level. She is ranked 19th as a junior woman golfer, which is equal to about the 2000th best woman and about the 1,000,000th best golfer on the planet. She can not even compare to Micheal Wie at the same age, Micheal was playing on the PGA tour at 16 and was one of the top 20 of all woman of any age.
The last thing this girl needs is to be compare to Tiger. I bet she doesn't even like being characterized as a black golfer, I am sure she think of herself as just simply an American junior golfer.
To Jewell, I bet she hasn't faced any adversity being a black girl in the mostly white world of junior golf. I bet everyone involve in the tournament go way out of their way to make her feel welcome.

Are you for real? I guess you never walked a day in a Black person's shoes. Hmmmmmm. You better find a copy of the book "Black Like Me" online. It was written by a White person who changed his appearance to live like a Black person. It was an eye opener for him and it surely will be so for you too.

this poster claims its asinine to compare ms stackhouse to tiger and then goes on to not only compare her to woods but also wie at age 16. not how long she has been playing by the time she reached 16, compared to how long they played before reaching that age, and then concludes that she doesn't measure up. we all know that tw's favorite toy as a kid was a golf club which he had before he even learned to walk. so by the time he reached 16, how many times do you think he swung that club? and how do you know if stackhouse would swing her clubs an equal number of times, she could not master him?
the poster goes on to make more outlandish claims while having no way of knowing whether she is motivated by the woods comparison or not; whether she wants to be characterized as black golfer as opposed to thinking of herself as "simply an american junior golfer."
also to suggest she hasn't faced adversity being black and everyone involved go out of their way to make her feel welcome is most outlandish of all.
