I've always had a special admiration and appreciate for Rev. Jesse Jackson. While most of us know Rev. Jackson as a public figure and prominent Civil Rights leader, most of us don't know about the difficulties he's endured while fighting for African Americans over the past 40 years. There were days when money was tight and death threats were at his front door, but he continued to push on.
In fact, there was a time when Rev. Jackson was listed as one of the top three human beings on earth most likely to be assassinated. This was right after the murder of Dr. King, so you can imagine the pressure one would face from loved ones to give up the struggle and instead aim for self-preservation. But that wasn't what he did, as he persevered and stood strong for his community. So, love him or hate him, you must admire anyone who is so consistent in his role as a public servant, for I assure you, the job is not easy by any stretch and the sacrifice is tremendous. The interview with Rev. Jackson is below, and features his detailed thoughts on the economic issues that face the black community and how they relate to our political empowerment. From black car dealership ownership, to ending the mass incarcation of black males, Rev. Jackson let's us know that he is still fighting for our empowerment and access to financial equality everyday. Learn more about how you can get involved by working with Rev. Jackson with the Rainbow PUSH Caolition.
Enjoy!

Rev. Jesse is a great leader, he has lead by example, he started by showing up in NY ,hiring a jewish PR man and getting on the Today Show with the infamous blody shirt. Of course he can be proud of the Rainbow Coalition ,since it paid for his illegitimate child out of its funds. A leader we can be proud of. His off air comments picked up about then candidate Obama showed his true colors.
What would Dr Boyce and Jesse do for a job if it wasnt for racism?
Its time we let The Rev Cat in The Hat Jesse and his ryhmes die out never to be heard from again.
The Rev was a great fight in the battle, but he gave way to money and corperations and lost his personal morals along the way.
Wouldnt Dr King be proud of him?

His "Green Eggs and Ham" reading on Saturday night live was his greatest performance to date. But selflessly fighting for the rights of others? I don't think so. He and Rev. Al wouldn't even get out of bed if it didn't involve a payday.

I'm with 'steve stinson' on this one. I feel no pride at all for Rev. Jackson. After I heard him speak so cruelly about candidate Obama, I lost any respect I'd had for him previously. He spoke of 'cutting off Obama's nuts'. What kind of Christian says such things? That comment made me take a hard look at Jackson. I came to realize that he is not the man of God he's claimed to be. As for his work in the civil rights movement, he really negated any accomplishments we've made on that front by saying that Obama was 'too uppity' and needed his testicles removed as punishment. That's what whites did to black men for ions. I suppose Jackson wanted to bring back the practice since he believes in civil rights only for himself. Seems like he stooped to envy during the 2008 elections. I have not had any use for him since that time. He should go away.

I hear you. At the same time, we all make mistakes and say things in anger. I actually can't think of a single person who has not said things that they regret. I wonder if that simple mistake is really enough to forget the work that Rev. Jackson has done for Americans across the board. No leader is perfect, but I would rather have a leader be considered to be a normal human being than some saint. No leader can be perfect and magically fix all our problems. A leader who is not glorified won't have that expectation.

@Alexis, I have always liked your ability to be emphatic towards others, It's something too many peepz lack ! However in this situation you may be stretching too far. Case in point you say JJ should not be judged for a verbal transgression right? Yet when Duane Chapman " the Dog " had a private conversation with his son that his son and his gf leaked. Duane made the PC mistake of using the N word, no talk of hate or violence. And it was JJ that lead the charge to have him fired from the network who produced his show. He was Willing to ruin Duane;s career and put the guys family @ risk losing their livelihood for it! Does that sound like a man of compassion or even a man of GOD? You tell me?

@Alexis: also wanted to add to my statement. Some may like or no like Duane Chapman but he is one of the few peepz/shows on that actually tries and help peepz. He shares how he went down the wrong path and put himself in prison(if you notice he takes responsibilty for what he did, he does not blame it on this or that). And shares how hard it was for him to turn his life around. When he has to pick some one up, him and his family treat them with respect (yes some times when the person runs their mouth about the "dog" not being able to find them, the chapmans will let them know no one gets away)and try and reach out to them. They have given their clients jobs, hooked them up with treatment and more. So to try and take down this family(yes I know they, mainly "dog" are redneckish)is not only hurting them but hurting each and every person they have and will try and help!! Now is Duane the poster child for diversity "NO", but when you look at when and where he grew up and the fact that he had a huge "biker" influence you can see that he has come farther along with diversity than most ever will!! So Why did Jessie feel that this man and his family and clients should suffer because of 1 private phone call????
