Allen Iverson
According to the super-popular black celebrity gossip site Young, Black & Fabulous, The Denver Post is reporting that former NBA star Allen Iverson is facing foreclosure. From The Denver Post:

Former Nuggets star Allen Iverson's Cherry Hills mega-mansion is under contract and expected to close on April 8, but not before Iverson quit paying the mortgage.

From TheGrio.com:

It seems hard to believe anyone would fall for this scam: Someone from a foreign country claims you've won millions, but first you must pay steep fees before you get your winnings.

Unfortunately, the lure of big money is just too much for some to resist.

A Pembroke Pines widow named Mary Kubalak wired nearly $400,000 to her scammer in Jamaica, home to a thriving telemarketing fraud industry that brings in hundreds of millions of illicit U.S. dollars every year.

In an exclusive interview with NBC Miami, Jamaica's top organized crime investigator, Senior Superintendent Fitz Bailey, says unscrupulous employees of legitimate telemarketing centers - even some in Miami - sell lists of phone numbers to the scammers who target the elderly.

American police often do almost nothing to pursue the bad guys.

Unemployment Dips to 8.9 Percent
From AOL News:

Employers hired in February at the fastest pace in almost a year and the unemployment rate fell to 8.9 percent - a nearly two-year low.

The economy added 192,000 jobs last month, with factories, professional and business services, education and health care among those expanding employment. Retailers, however, trimmed jobs. State and local governments, wrestling with budget shortfalls, slashed 30,000 jobs, the most since November. Federal government hiring was flat.

Private employers added 222,000 jobs last month, the most since April. That shows that companies are feeling more confident in the economy and about their own financial prospects. And it bolstered hopes that businesses will shift into a more aggressively hiring mode and boost the economic recovery.

The unemployment rate is now at the lowest point since April 2009. It has been falling for three months, down from 9.8 percent in November, marking the sharpest three-month decline since 1983.

The Lithonia, Ga., megachurch said the cuts are in response to the economic downturn.

"Like numerous other churches and charitable organizations across Georgia and the rest of the country, New Birth and its faith community have been impacted by the nationwide downturn in the economy," the church said, according to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Two full-time employees are being laid off and salaries will shrink by 10 percent. New Birth will also experiment with an adjusted work week of four days, rather than five.

Mariah Carey
From The Grio:

Mariah Carey says she was unaware that she was booked to perform a concert linked to Gadhafi's clan -- and she's embarrassed "to have participated in this mess."

Carey is among a handful of entertainers who were paid handsome fees to give exclusive private concerts. It was later revealed the people behind those concerts were the family of Libyan leader Moammar Gadhafi, whose country is in an open revolt against him and who faces an investigation for possible war crimes.

This week, Nelly Furtado announced she is giving the $1 million fee she was paid in 2007 to charity; Beyonce said in a statement Wednesday that she donated her fees for a 2009 New Year's Eve performance in St. Bart's to Haiti earthquake relief once she discovered the Gadhafi link.

Diddy's Bad Boy Named the Third Largest Minority Owned Business in NYC

From The Network Journal:

Despite all the recent bad news for Sean "P. Diddy" Combs, such as his flagship NYC clothing store on Manhattan's tony Fifth Avenue closing, the hip-hop entrepreneur just received some great news.

His company, Bad Boy Worldwide Entertainment Group, has ranked as the third "Largest Minority Owned Business," according to Crain's New York Business. On top of this, Diddy actually runs the third largest minority owned business in all of New York City.

"Diddy's brand has endured - in spite of his very public failures... the restaurant, store closing, poor record sales of his artists, etc - because he has the ability to make or break people and he has powerful connection," notes hip-hop business expert Saideh Browne, president of Impact Agency NY and author of '99 Tips to Transform Your Business Today' (March 2011, GS Publishing Group). "Those who may want to publicly sabotage his brand should likely think two, three or four times before doing so because he has the ability to always bounce back."

From Clutch Magazine:

Two months ago, Oprah Winfrey made television history debuting her very own network, OWN, the Oprah Winfrey Network. Bolstered by her popular television show, Oprah's departure from network TV to her own cable channel seemed like a feat only she could pull off.

Except two months in, Oprah's millions of fans-who usually snap up anything she blesses with her seal of approval-don't seem to be turning in. OWN's less-than-stellar ratings have some wondering if Oprah lost her golden touch.

The New York Times writes:

Nelly Furtado, Beyonce: Gadhafi Money
UDPATE: Carey 'embarrassed' over Gadhafi-linked concert

The impending fall of Libyan dictator Moammar Gadhafi has brought to light the massive sums his family has paid stars to perform for him. Nelly Furtado just tweeted that she intends to give back the $1 million she earned for a 45-minute performance for the Gadhafi clan by donating this sum to charity -- and other stars might soon do the same. Furtado's announcement comes simultaneously with a call from music industry leaders for more stars -- including Beyonce, Usher, Mariah Carey and 50 Cent -- to give up their dirty Gadhafi cash. MSN music news reports:

Beyoncé, Mariah Carey, Usher and 50 Cent are facing industry calls to give back the money they earned performing at lavish parties thrown by family members of Libyan dictator Moammar Gadhafi.

"If it were me, it would go to charity," says Buck Williams, agent for R.E.M. and Widespread Panic. Adds David T. Viecelli, agent for Arcade Fire, "Hopefully donate it to a charity that somehow assists some of the people who have suffered at the hands of that regime."
